How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

Don't let me scare you off. I'm only 4 days post op, but I'm still convinced this was my best choice--no regrets. I also could have taken more of the heavy pain meds, but I've always been scared of those with a family history of addiction, so I was taking half doses for a day then only Tylenol the second day.

I am out of surgery! Total nerve wracking, spent all last week concerned 😟 was making a huge mistake. They removed over 5 lbs. currently staying overnight (surgery center can do 23 hour care) and so grateful I picked the center that had that. Nurses are the kindest that I’ve ever experienced, such a good experience. Not in a ton of pain really, but just more stinging and uncomfortable. i made it, it’s done!

    Frustrated with hair

Somewhat shallow post ☺️ I am frustrated with my hair. It’s been about a year and a half since surgery. It has been thin, and different textures/thicknesses. I got the wispy ends cut off, but it all looks dry and weird. Like a wig, or cotton candy, or something made of straw. Not like life before surgery. (I am so happy I had the surgery and would do it again.). I tried hot oil, different conditioners, blowing it dry differently, styling differently. Dermatologist said I could try Rogaine, but not sure I want to risk more hair loss. Any suggestions from those of you who experienced something similar? I usually go to a discount salon for trims, but feel like I may need further assistance. Do I call a salon and ask for someone who works with post-surgery hair?

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

I’ve been told by my clinic that I can’t take anything in with me & that they’ll supply any meds needed. I might sneak a packet in anyway to have at the hotel afterwards! 😅

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

Better - I think. The real test will be the dexa scan table at six months. I do know I'm sleeping SO much better now 38 pounds lighter which now that I think of it may be related to more normal joint positioning as things shrink and shift. I no longer wake up in pain at all which just dawned on me.

    Phobias since surgery

Just rest, sleep and heal. Forget everything else, you have enough to think about with vitamins, supplements and drinking your quota.

Hi! I am a nurse, in the hospital I work I did care for surgical Sleeve and RNY patients. I would say the most common description of the pain I have been told is “gas pain” which is alleviated by walking and with pain medicine. Of all the surgical patients I’ve cared for I’ve found Bariatric patients to be the most motivated to move after surgery and the pain is uncomfortable but not intolerable (I’ve not had a bariatric patient in tears from their pain if that helps you feel less anxious!). I used to be one of those people who saw bariatric surgery as “the easy way” until I cared for bariatric patients. Then I learned it is so much more than a surgery and it leads to life changes that improve quality of life.

    August surgery buddies!

Is anyone else sick of so much sweet food from pre/post ops? It all tastes so bad to me at this point.

Thanks you so much! I am home recovering....not too bad so far. It's actually easier to keep up with my liquids and protein this time. I have not felt any GERD and I'm down 3 pounds lol
