How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

Don't let me scare you off. I'm only 4 days post op, but I'm still convinced this was my best choice--no regrets. I also could have taken more of the heavy pain meds, but I've always been scared of those with a family history of addiction, so I was taking half doses for a day then only Tylenol the second day.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

I understand where you are coming from and see issues like that for me coming up…. Unfortunately he isn’t changing but I am. I have been married for 22 years so it’s not a relationship i want to flush down the drain, but I have to start to prioritize myself over everyone else. He too likes the way things are and is trying hard to avoid change. it has been too much hard work to change myself for the better and loose the weight i have to go back to the destructive patterns of the last 21 years….. I am giving him a little more time to adjust but also letting him know that I need emotional support and help around the house too and if he is not willing to change for me, I wish him well on his solitary path. It’s hard when partners are out of sync; even worse when one refuses to adjust for the other … I hope he can change for you.

    Frustrated with hair

Somewhat shallow post ☺️ I am frustrated with my hair. It’s been about a year and a half since surgery. It has been thin, and different textures/thicknesses. I got the wispy ends cut off, but it all looks dry and weird. Like a wig, or cotton candy, or something made of straw. Not like life before surgery. (I am so happy I had the surgery and would do it again.). I tried hot oil, different conditioners, blowing it dry differently, styling differently. Dermatologist said I could try Rogaine, but not sure I want to risk more hair loss. Any suggestions from those of you who experienced something similar? I usually go to a discount salon for trims, but feel like I may need further assistance. Do I call a salon and ask for someone who works with post-surgery hair?

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

So I might be the minority here, but I want to keep it real because I wish I would have been more prepared…. Pain initially after surgery wasn’t bad, largest Incision hurt the worst. However, waking up from anesthesia did not go so well. I woke up incredibly nauseous, and vomited multiple times, As you can imagine it was incredibly uncomfortable. Due to the anesthesia, I slept most of the day following my surgery. Most say that they have intense gas pains post Surgery, however I never felt any gas pains. The biggest struggle for me in the hospital was not being able to go to the bathroom by myself. The anesthesia caused me to not be able to go. I ended up having to stay at the hospital an additional night due to this. This wasn’t some thing that I was prepared for, or some thing I had seen mention from anyone else on these boards. Apparently I just had a difficult recovery from anesthesia. Once I came home, the pain was very minimal. However, the nausea was still difficult to deal with, and made it hard to drink anything. I noticed after a day or two at home my legs were very weak I was having a hard time even going up my stairs. Once I stop taking pain meds, the weakness in my legs was gone. So just a heads up when you’re taking pain meds to watch out for other side effects. Those are just a few things I wish I would’ve known before surgery.

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

I’ve been told by my clinic that I can’t take anything in with me & that they’ll supply any meds needed. I might sneak a packet in anyway to have at the hotel afterwards! 😅

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?

Better - I think. The real test will be the dexa scan table at six months. I do know I'm sleeping SO much better now 38 pounds lighter which now that I think of it may be related to more normal joint positioning as things shrink and shift. I no longer wake up in pain at all which just dawned on me.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

Oh sweet pea, I'm so sorry - I think it's not 'men' who are so frustrating, I think it may be *the* man to whom you have currently hitched your wagon. My partner has never. ever, ever been anything but totally supportive to me on my weight loss journey. He has given things up, restricted intake, upped his exercise, stopped eating carbs/sugar/whatever whenever that was what I needed at the time. I could not have done this without him. You might want to look into couples counselling. If your partner is derailing this huge, massive, life-altering thing you have done, even inadvertently, then that needs picking apart by a professional xxx

Hi! I am a nurse, in the hospital I work I did care for surgical Sleeve and RNY patients. I would say the most common description of the pain I have been told is “gas pain” which is alleviated by walking and with pain medicine. Of all the surgical patients I’ve cared for I’ve found Bariatric patients to be the most motivated to move after surgery and the pain is uncomfortable but not intolerable (I’ve not had a bariatric patient in tears from their pain if that helps you feel less anxious!). I used to be one of those people who saw bariatric surgery as “the easy way” until I cared for bariatric patients. Then I learned it is so much more than a surgery and it leads to life changes that improve quality of life.

    August surgery buddies!

Is anyone else sick of so much sweet food from pre/post ops? It all tastes so bad to me at this point.

Thanks you so much! I am home recovering....not too bad so far. It's actually easier to keep up with my liquids and protein this time. I have not felt any GERD and I'm down 3 pounds lol
