    August surgery buddies!

It’s just as well I dislike tomato soup because my doctor disallows tomatoes for at least 6 months due to high acidity (citrus also). I just got some puréed butternut squash soup and miso-ginger broth from Trader Joe’s today.

Good morning all, I have a surgery date and now I’m really nervous. Not sure what to expect. I have a lot of questions. Not sure what to expect

Hello and congratulations on your date! Do lots of reading on these Forums, you will likely get most of your questions answers. Of course, write a list of questions to ask your surgeon the next time you seem him/her. Or, just ask away. I am sure someone can provide the answers.

    Rate of loss post-op

So were you 5 ft 2 in and started off at around 200 pounds? Then you lost a final total of 88 pounds and are now sitting at roughly 112 pounds (when your goal weight was 132)??? That's actually amazing weight loss!!! For me, my ideal weight is between 145-155. I'm honestly not getting anywhere near that, and I'm ok with it. My goal is 200 pounds, but secretly I actually want to get to 185 if possible. My surgeon went over the stats and averages and explained that the sleeve usually produces less weight loss that the bypass, but I wasn't willing to do the bypass because I have pills I HAVE to take and I knew that wasn't allowed with the bypass.

Congratulations on your success. Our stories aren't dramatically different. Dammit, I'm still working. Good luck, Tek

The bypass went really well. Less pain than I experienced with the band procedure (weird, I know!) and the weight is coming off at a steady pace. Gotta keep myself in check and not get comfortable and start snacking on the wrong foods or thinking I'm home free. The one big plus...being able to eat FRUIT again! With the band, it never seemed to pass through and I love fruits! I need to increase my veggie intake to be the majority of my meals and summer time being so hot this year, I haven't been cooking the veggies in the oven to keep the house cool. But once it starts to cool down, I intent to go in on baking and air frying a whole bunch of fresh veggies. My surgery was 2/3/22 and I have lost 46 pounds thus far and well on my way to my goal weight. I'm drinking 64-96 ounces of water with crystal light lemonade (yummy) every day and this has been a HUGE help in keeping my appetite in check. I also stop eating by about 5 pm most nights which also has helped. I'm working out with water aerobics and calistenics at home so my body doesn't look like melted wax at the end of my body transformation. The surgery was the easy part though it was the part I was most fearful about. I have a life to live and plans to enjoy my getting older years with my amazing husband. I hope the same for you!

I have a hard time getting it in. I have a 32 oz bottle with 4 oz marks on the side (made myself but you can buy fancy ones). I have to get two bottles in a day. I am 6 weeks post op and have only missed my water intake a few times (mostly the first few days post op). Pre surgery I could chug the water to get it in so now that I cannot do that, it makes it harder. Frequently, I have 24 oz plus to get in after 8 pm but manage to do so. It just has to be foremost in you thoughts.

    Fluid Intake

a few years ago I started drinking a 16 oz bottle of flavored water first thing every morning - as soon as I'm out of bed, and before I eat breakfast. Once I started doing that, I rarely had problems making it up to 64 oz by the end of the day.
