    August surgery buddies!

Just got my confirmation call for my pre-surgical testing appt in Tuesday! Its becoming soooo real! Argh!! Also, I ate some a pickle slices. Do you guys think that’s terrible? Where do pickles fall on the list of things you can’t eat on the liquid diet? Anyone have any ideas? Also for those of you who have had your surgeries already thank you for posting your stories and how it went. Its making it easier to wait on line for my turn to come!

    Weight Gain

I am a little more than a year out from my gastric sleeve an initially lost around 75 lbs. I recently started back on my antidepressant and seem to crave carbs. I have put back on about 20 lbs and really need to get my snacking under control. In the past being on antidepressants was a major cause of my weight gain and I am trying to tame the carb monster since I started back on the meds. Any suggestions besides getting back to religiously tracking calories. I still work out about 4 days a week. I think focusing on my protein intake may help with the carb cravings but I thought I would see if others have any recommendations. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Diet right after surgery?

Hi everyone, Just wondering what your diet was directly after leaving the hospital?

I'd be elated if my hunger had never come back (unfortunately, mine came roaring back at five months out), but yea - that retching would be awful. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. P.S. I could never do a buffet anymore. I can eat more than you, but it's not enough to justify what you pay for to eat at those. I usually order an entree and take 1/2 of it home. Unfortunately, you can't box up uneaten buffet items and take them home with you like you can with regular orders - so I never get those anymore

I am only 3 months out and Haven't stopped enjoying going to restaurants. I usually just share whatever my husband gets (with my input) since I can eat so little - but still very much enjoy the experience. I still get to eat food prepared by someone else! It is just as satisfying as eating at home, except in different surroundings and ambiance. Mind over matter!

    I'm sad VERY SAD!

I’m glad to hear you are doing better but sorry you are still struggling. I’m working closely with a therapist (for years now) … since my accident, and talking through my decision to take this step (surgery … I’m scheduled for next Tuesday). I also see a separate therapist with my husband. There are days I feel like both are a waste of time, but usually I feel like it helps and I even look forward to it sometimes. Even sessions when I don’t think are really head on dealing with “things”… usually end up lightening my load and making everything easier to deal with until my next session. My best therapy advice is find someone you connect with and you enjoy talking to. Sometimes you need to go through more than one, and that’s ok. When you find the right person - it will make all the difference in the world. Thankfully my therapist is experienced with bariatric / weight loss issues. If he wasn’t, I would reach out to my bariatric program (they have a great therapist in house) or if I wasn’t comfortable with their person, I’d ask them for a referral. I hope things continue to get better.

Sorry you are feeling so out of step with your family. Maybe turn meals into a social event for you? you can enjoy the small portions of things at the restaurant and really try to spend the time talking or maybe playing some games around the table? Change it into an advantage for you since you won’t be spending as much time consuming as much. Or go on after meal walks or other low budget adventures. If there is more to it, I hope you can find the cause and bring it out in the open and deal with what’s upsetting you.

    3 week stall

Changing macros is always interesting and usually pays off. Some say cut the carbs, others say up them. For example, I upped my carbs to over 100g and dropped another 5 lbs. I have been below my weight loss goal but was stalled for a few weeks. I have been working up to consume the 7-13 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, as per my surgeon's diet plan. It's similar to the Longevity diet based on a 30 year recent study.
