    Post Surgery Dreams

Oooh I forgot about this one. The last time I went to an amusement park was years ago at Carowinds (NC/SC). I was riding Drop Zone (tall, chairs go up, lock, and then drop you). The line is always long for this ride. We finally made it, I sat down with my friends and pulled the lock bar over my head and shoulders. The attendant comes around and locks the buckle between your legs to the lock bar. They couldn't get it to click. I had to walk off the ride and through the exit, alone, because I was too fat to ride. I never went back. I sometimes wonder if my love for roller coasters has waned since I haven't been on one in so long. I hope not. The thrill was exhilarating! Can't wait to try again.

Hi, I searched the forums and the search isn't that great so I couldn't find an answer. Here's the question: I have bipolar and general anxiety and going over my paperwork with my mental health advocate (my therapist has already signed off on the surgery), she mentions that being bipolar and having general anxiety won't impede my surgery but it would be called off if I had borderline personality disorder (BPD), which I don't have. The very, very short explanation of BPD is someone who cannot regulate their emotions and and typically have unstable relationships such as family, professional, and romantically. It can be managed a variety of ways typically with CBT or DBT but it can be controlled. My therapist, whose had WLS themselves, has no idea why BPD would be a limiting factor. Does anyone know why?

Be very excited! I wish I had been more excited and less nervous! My surgery was Wednesday 6/8 and I already feel 25 years younger and just fabulous. I had a massive hiatal hernia repaired, gastric bypass, and gall bladder removal. This surgery was the best decision I ever made. shopping: you may be bloated from IV Fluid when you go home. I bought a pair of shoes 1/2 size larger and it’s a good thing that I did. TEGADERM PATCHES: I was able to shower 2 days post op, but you don’t want the Water beating down on the laparoscopic sites. sugar free ICE POPS: I bought about 6 boxes of these because a couple of weeks ago, they were scarce. If I wake in the middle of the night, I’ll have an ice pop. BROTH: low sodium. SMALL HAND HELD STRAINER: so you can strain cream of whatever Soup. YOUR favorite Protein Shake. Mine is premier Peanut Butter chocolate. CRYSTAL LIGHT: pick your favorite flavors. I go through this like crazy. FAIRLIFE SKIM or 1% MILK: my nutritionist told me to buy it to thin shakes, put in soup. She was right. I bought Nespresso pods and K Cups in Decaf because I do miss the taste of coffee. STOOL SOFTENER: I bought Miralax. BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR: my surgeon wants me to monitor my bp and get in touch with my PCP when it starts to come down. I wore hospital gowns in the hospital but had some nice lounge wear for when I got home. BANDAIDS: I’m on an oral bloodthinner for a month. The tiniest scratch will bleed like you can’t believe. SUGAR FREE JELLO:  so many packs of that. B COMPLEX VITAMINS: tiny capsules…easy to swallow. I’ll let you know if I think of anything else.

Hi! Mine is the 20th as well. So far i just have a few shakes and a few vitamins. I got a multivitamin with iron melt, a biotin melt and a sublingual b12. I need to still get vitamin D and i think thats it for the vitamins. You should probably grab some no sugar added ice pops and maybe sugar free jello.

it would be the exception, not the rule, for someone at your starting weight to lose 30 lbs the first month. If you weighed well over 300 lbs, then yea - but I'm very surprised she told you that with your starting weight. Not that it couldn't happen, but it's not very realistic. I hate to question your doctor, but I've been hanging out on bariatric forums for over seven years, and also volunteered at my clinic for about four years. As I said, that's definitely not impossible, but it'd be the exception to lose that much weight given your starting weight.

What is the name of your surgeon. I'm needing revision surgery.

I wasn't required to do that (I just had to work with a dietitian for six months, as my insurance company required it), but as someone else said, I know some surgeons won't operate if patients are over a certain BMI (like 60, for example - but that varies).

    Awful smelling stool and gas

I am a DSer 3 years out. Carbs do the gas and foul smell for me. So bread, rice, potatoes, Beans, sugar, chips - I will get gas that sounds like a herd of buffalo are coming through. Everyone is different. Some people get wicked diarrhea from certain foods. I did not have any food issues (lucky I guess). Dairy can do it, carbs definitely do it, and certain chemicals can do it. Curb your carbs and see if the gas doesn't die down. Smelly BMs - part of that is the food you eat. If you stay close to clean Protein, protein powders, a little veggies, a lot of clean fat (you need to eat 5 times the fat as a normal person), your smell and gas will subside. By clean, I mean eat from the perimeter of your grocery store – your food should not be coming out of a box. If it doesn't get better, get a script from your doctor for an antibiotic to knock down some of the colon bacteria (and definitely stop eating carbs because that is what is feeding the colon bacteria). Even when you eat cleanly, you will have smelling BMs. Half of what you eat isn’t getting digested. It is sitting in your guts at 100 degrees in a Soup of bacteria all the way through your intestines for 24-72 hours. So you are releasing fermented, bacteria soaked undigested food at the other end. I’ve used all the poo products and the one I use at work is called Ozone Spray. It’s the only thing I’ve seen that will kill the odor on contact. It will also suck the oxygen out of your lungs, so spray it and get out. Also keep flushing. Don’t let it sit in the bowl cause it will waft up and start sticking to the walls and mirror (kidding here, but it will start traveling down the hallway and kill small children and pets). My family is disgusted by my bathroom smells, and it will stay in the hallway and bathroom for hours – so keep flushing it down. It gets better as time goes on. At the 2 yr point, your body will adjust and your bathroom issues will level out.
