    sleeve vs bypass

I went with the bypass because I had GERD, and I didn't want it to get worse with the sleeve. A bonus was that the GERD actually went away after my bypass. It's strange not to carry TUMS in my purse anymore! If you have GERD, definitely get the bypass. If not, then it just comes down to your personal choice. Watch the youtube videos, do your research, and see if your surgeon leans one way or the other. Good luck!!

    Almost 6 weeks out questions!

Hi Don’t worry, It’s common early on to feel like you’re constantly eating and drinking to reach your daily goals or satisfy hunger. Sometimes soft foods and liquids just go right through us. Also because they move through the stomach easier you may never feel restriction or satisfied. Foods that go down easy and leave you hungry are “sliders”. Solids are different. The firmer proteins feel heavier in your stomach and may even prompt from your restriction/fullness quicker. Remember try to go slow when introducing new foods and pay attention to what you can and can’t tolerate. Congratulations so far ❤️

    Naked and Afraid

It's normal to be scared. I agree, lapband is not a great surgery. Bypass has the best stats as far as reversing diabetes. I generally like the idea of following your surgeon's advice or getting a second opinion if you're still not sure.

Hello, I am on day 6 after having gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair surgery. I can not tolerate the shakes. I’ve tried multiple kinds, non dairy. As soon as I drink it, I have terrible diarrhea, like I have to make a run for it. Idk what to do! I’m not getting enough protein so I have no energy. I’m trying the Gatorade protein, but I don’t think that’s enough. Any advice?

    sleeve vs bypass

I am speaking from my personal experience and would recommend the bypass. I got my sleeve 8 years ago and have had GERD since (was not an issue prior). It has progressively gotten worse and I now have a hiatal hernia as well. My doctor is considering a revision to bypass to address the issue. I also have issues with vitamin and protein deficiencies. I have been on Prevacid for the entire 8 years since my surgery. I realize everyone is different but research some of the risks of GERD after sleeve. It is not fun.

    New here

Congratulations and welcome! The best advice I can give is to be ready to get up and walk after surgery, use a heating pad for any gas pains (helped tremendously for me), and definitely find a brand of protein shakes/powder you like. My personal favorites are the Premier Protein brand ( regular chocolate is my favorite) and the vegan OWYN brand (a little pricey but doesnt have that protein after taste).

    Dreaded hair loss - question

Bypassingmyphat, I am just beginning my journey to surgery and have been doing research and learning all I can. My gut feeling on this is to go cut it yourself, take control over the one piece of this journey you can at this point. If it is long enough donate it to a charity that uses the hair to make wigs for cancer patients. That way you can bring some good to someone else.

Finally, some new clothes to show! Picked a few dresses for upcoming island vacay. These are for nighttime/dinner. The shorter dress is actually red (dunno why it looks so orange-y in the pic). I realized today when i was deciding on buying it that I have never owned/wore a fully red dress before! Go figure.
