Yes, it’s always best to follow your surgeon’s advice but you also have to consider what you are able to do. Have to admit I’m surprised you are able to weight lift so soon after surgery given the weight restrictions we’re given. I could only lift/carry 5-10kgs the first fortnight then 10-20 the next fortnight. Many of us are advised just to walk to begin but 🤷🏻‍♀️. There are lots of benefits to regular exercise but the truth is exercise will only contribute 10-20% of the weight you have to lose. So if you have to lose 100lbs, exercise will account for only 10-20lbs. I barely exercised at all & I not only reached goal but exceeded it. But that was my choice. And exercising doesn’t help to reduce the amount of loose skin you’ll have. That’s dependent upon factors like age, gender, genetics, how much weight you have to lose, how long you were at the higher weight & your weight loss/gain history. Loose skin is about your skin being stretched out & it’s ability to retract back. That’s the elastane in your skin not your muscles. My friend & fellow sleever is a keen cyclist (100-200km a week) has rock hard thighs of steel but she still has all her loose skin. Best advice is to listen to your body & do what you are capable of & comfortable doing.

Good luck tomorrow! I'll see you on the other side of this! I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am tomorrow! Getting VERY nervous! Also hoping I've shrunk my liver enough. Scale has hardly moved this week even though I haven't cheated at all! Hoping its just muscle gain since I've been going to the gym all week.

That surgeon you posted the video on - he's interested in shocking people and being contrarian. He's not YOUR surgeon, he's never met or examined YOU and he doesn't know YOUR history. I think people here have posted a lot of excellent points. I was not cleared for lifting weights until 4 weeks out, when I was cleared for everything. However, I had not been doing much besides walking and swimming until that point. As @Arabesque said, exercise will not reduce your loose skin. It's just basically something you will or will not have to deal with, but most likely, you will have loose skin. Exercise is great for overall health, and weight lifting is good to reduce the amount of muscle mass you lose after surgery, but it's a minor part of your weight loss. it's better for keeping weight off long term.

Surgery Coordinator messaged me today to let me know Cigna approved my insurance packet. I see my surgeon on Monday, 5/16, and we should be able to set up a surgery date. I’m hoping for June 8 or later…but not too much later as I want to get this done. I will also be having a large hiatal hernia repaired during the gastric bypass.

Same, every morning after I am done with my business. Weighing everyday is motivation for me for sure. And mentally I get the strength to keep going. Of course during stalls it can get a tad bit frustrating too but I don't beat myself up because back of mind I know that is to be expected and things will start moving again. So yes, every morning indeed works like a charm for me physically and mentally.

    Newbie saying hi!

Hi there! I’m pretty new here too. My surgery is scheduled for May 31st. I have been reading all the posts here from the members and find them extremely helpful in understanding the road ahead.

    Hunger pains

When I get like that it’s because I’m not getting enough protein, so I drink my shake! Make sure you reread your meal plan and follow it to a tee. It helps! 1 week post op the mere thought of having to eat made me a little nauseous. First priority is protein. Make sure to ask your nutritionist contact if you’re not sure!!

I weigh myself most mornings, nekkid, after peeing. Usually first thing after I get up. When I hit a rough stall, I won't do it every single day. I assess whether it is doing more harm than good and decide accordingly. But, I only "count" the weight that is on the anniversary of my surgery. I track all the weights in Baritastic, but the official weight in my weekly spreadsheet is Monday's weight (or Tuesday if I am out of town that weekend). Every day is not for everyone, but I find it helps keep me on target. And, back in the olden days when I didn't weigh daily I would go off the deep end and then gain 10 lbs or whatever it would be. I'm not concerned about doing that now, but I'm trying to prepare myself for the long term and what I know helps keep me honest. It's a very personal decision, since we are all wired differently.
