My file is complete per my surgeon’s admin. I’m going to start the CPAP tonight or tomorrow night. The admin will call Monday to set up my ‘Results’ appointment with the surgeon, and my paperwork will go to CIGNA on Monday. Now I wait. I’m so tempted to book a date in May and only give myself 5 days till I’m back at school. HOWEVER, I will most likely choose to do the more prudent thing, and have surgery June 9th or 10th-ish when school is out. Yes, I am enjoying a food bucket list until I start the pre-op diet. My BMI is 40.9 and I’m hell bent on keeping it there till Cigna says yes. I’d love to hear from the April Surgery Buddies regarding your immediate post-op recovery. I guess that this week (fingers crossed) I will be able to join the June Surgery Buddies Group. FWIW, I began this journey on 1/15 with research into WLS. My zoom call with the surgeon’s office was 2/22. The pre-procedure testing (extensive) began in March. I started out thinking sleeve, but I have opted for bypass. I have a large hiatal hernia that will be repaired during surgery.

    How much calcium??

My clinic doesn't have specific fiber recommendations. For calcium citrate, it's 1200-1500 mg per day, split into 2 or three doses, at least 2-3 hours apart, separate from multivitamins. Hope this helps.

    Confused by Consult

My thoughts are that you need a new surgeon. If you have reflux, DO NOT get the sleeve. It will likely make it a lot worse. I was able to choose between bypass and sleeve because my A1c was less than 7 and because I don't have any form of reflux, so I chose the sleeve. My husband has GERD and a higher A1c and was advised that bypass is really his only option. Sometimes those that never had reflux get it with the sleeve and have to revise to a bypass to resolve it. And while the sleeve has less risk, the bypass does give about an extra 10% of weight loss. So definitely find a new surgeon.

    Fluid Intake

I have always drank a ton of water. Upwards of 100oz a day. I peed all the time. Once I had surgery, I never pee. I mean I do, but just a few times a day. I am drinking about 70oz or more of water a day right now but it is like now my body needs and absorbs every drop instead of just peeing it out. I thought it was interesting to see the difference.

    Pre-Op Broth?

I have the store bought broth (I bought vegetable, chicken, and beef) and I bought this to mix with it for heavier flavor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SQMM4GL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I tried it last night and tonight, and with the extra flavoring, they are really good!!!!

Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.

Honestly? Go to the wedding, trust your own instincts coupled with your doctor’s instructions, and have a fabulous time. Take it one step at a time…be comfortable with what you are doing!

    Post op necessities

I have a food scale which I used A LOT the first year or two. I don't use it that much anymore, though - maybe once a month or so. I bought some 8 oz ramekins because that way I didn't have to measure some things. If it fit in the ramekin, it was a cup (or if it fit in half the ramekin, it was 1/2 a cup - although you can also buy 4 oz ramekins) I also bought some baby spoons - and I still use them for eating some things (like yogurt) at seven years out -- but now it's mostly because I love them! I never bought special cups or glasses - I Just used the ones I already had.
