    I'm overweight!

    4.5 months after my sleeve and I am officially overweight. It's the best thing I have ever done. I cannot believe the speed with which I have lost all that weight. I know that I want to lose another 40 pounds or so and I can only hope that I do, but honestly if I stopped losing weight in the morning I would be happy with what I have achieved right now. Best of luck to those of you starting out on your journey - it's a wild ride.

    it's going to vary pretty widely because it depends on so many factors besides starting BMI (although that's a big one, of course). Gender, age, metabolic rate, activity rate, what percentage of your body is muscle - those all play a role. that said, I lost 57 lbs before I had surgery (between my six-month supervised diet that was required by my insurance company, plus the two-week liquid diet required by the surgeon). At one year out, I was 129 lbs down from my surgery weight, and 186 lbs down from my all-time highest weight. I went on to lose another 50 or so lbs during year 2 (have gained 20 of it back since then, which is pretty common. A lot of us experience a 10-20 lb rebound gain after hitting our lowest weight). P.S. Just noticed this was posted in the gastric sleeve forum - I had bypass. Average loss tends to be a little more with bypass (although not by much), but it totally depends on the person. If you really stick to your program, you can be very successful with either.

    I was given the option of Sleeve vs Bypass but chose bypass because I didn't want the risk of revision if GERD and also wanted a surgery that had better statistics to back up given my history of PCOS. So have you considered of Bypass? I think out of pocket means it may little more expensive for you to get bypass but do give it a thought and do your research to ease your nerves. Also like others mentioned, you shouldn't get intimidated by certain some a experiences. If some have had not so great experience, there are also others out here who have found success and turned a new leaf in their lives. Every experience is different and not everyone is going to describe their detailed medical history here. So best option for you is to speak to your surgical team and see what they have to say about your dilemma.

    at less than one year i was at my goal weight was it easy no worth the effort hell yes

    What was your "this is it" moment

    As someone who cancelled/postponed their surgery TWICE, i get where you are coming from. And like many of those who came before AND after me, my sole regret of the whole thing was not doing it sooner (or even not doing it right away the first time i was approved). What caused me to finally go through with my THIRD scheduled date seems a little inconsequential: i was sitting on a patio stair step trying to put sunscreen on my feet at a pool party, but my bulk prevented me from just bending over to do it comfortably, so i had to bend my leg behind me so i could reach. I looked up and noticed people watching me (with what i took as pity, though it may not even have been, it was just what i took it as), and that was it. I was sleeved the next month. Best decision ever. And while i could have had it done 2 years earlier, better late than never i guess. You are ready when you’re ready. Good Luck! ❤️ P.S. We sort of have similar starting stats: I am 5’2”, and was 235 lbs at the beginning of my 2 wk pre-op diet (but im much older…was 46 when i had surgery) And here are my progress pics:

    What was your "this is it" moment

    I tried (REALLY tried) to lose my weight the analogue way through calorie counting and running. I was doing really well. I lost 25kg, and was fitter than I'd been in decades, my labs were brilliant, my GP was incredibly happy with my progress. Then the pandemic hit and I put some weight back on, and while for a while I was stable and managed to keep it in check, I still fell off the wagon. I gained all the weight back plus extra - that tired old familiar routine. I was devastated, and knew I was self-sabotaging, but couldn't get back into the calorie counting and fitness. That was my "I just cannot do this on my own" moment. I would always do well, get to a certain point, then just... let go and fall back into failure. I knew weight loss surgery was my final option, and after my best effort failed, I took out Private Health Cover, and set my WLS in motion. I 100% wish I'd done this ten years ago.     You know, im thinking back now to when i first was nearing goal and I remember i too got a bit concerned about having to increase calories to stop the weight loss (i tried to find my original post but no luck). I did not think it would be possible. Then i also remember a few members further out than me telling me “don’t worry, it’ll happen”. And yep, they were right. So i get the bit of panic. i/we are/were in a diet groove of sorts and changing that up does of course bring about a bit of uncertainty and with that maybe some panic/anxiety. its easy for me to say now, looking back, to just trust yourself that you can navigate through the inevitable changes, but im saying so in hindsight, with the benefit of actually having gone though it already. In any case, good luck, vent away, voice your fears, broadcast your successes, and try if you can to know you aren’t alone in feeling this way. ❤️
