    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

My surgeon told me that if you meet the criteria you’re good. I still was nervous though but my approval came in about 2 days

So I am almost at the end of my 4th month and it seems I am getting full lot faster than before 🤷🏻‍♀️ Like the amount, I was able to eat, now I can't as much. Before I was okay eating around 0.75 cup (half of it is usually yogurt) but now I feel stuffed with the same level, so I have reduced the portion size a little to may be 0.5 to 0.6 cup or incorporate less solid and more semi solid like yogurt (which I usually have with every meal for my protein as a vegetarian eater). I don't know if anyone has experienced similar trajectory. Not sure if I should be concerned? Because I am studying, I am not as active. I do make sure to walk about 45 mins to an hour a day but that's mostly my activity other than some chores here and there. So I can't eat more than 3 to 4 meals a day and calories have kinda reduced too (between 600 to 800). I don't know, guess I am rambling but I am unable to eat as much to increase my calories. My dietician said usually patients on our program are around 1000 calories around 6 months mark, so I think I am alright but if I feel stuffed, I can't manage to eat much.

    Lactose Intolerant

I had my sleeve done last October. I'll be 6 months this April 27. I guess I'm lucky because I can drink milk and eat cheese. The only way I can drink the protein shakes are by mixing the powder with milk. I've lost over 100 pounds now since last March when I started my program. You might be able to tolerate dairy after you heal more. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

That's really smart, and I'm happy that they offer complication insurance. I learned something new today, lol.

Good to know. If I ever do give it another try I will have to ask for sativa or hybrid. I am honestly not even sure what I got but There was no fighting the cravings with the stuff I got. I’m sure it was supposed to be calming though because I got what the dr recommended for anxiety.

@SmankySo I had an appt with my family physician. Here usually FPs take over after the surgery to monitor the blood work and the other medical aspects. She thinks may be calcium supplements may be causing the constipation, bloating and feeling stuffed. Asked me to cut down on the supplements since my blood work looks good and I also consume more than enough dairy to get my calcium naturally. Today I feel better. Another reason could be my periods, which happened after 6 months or so. So I guess I had forgotten how it felt to have periods lol. So bloating and all could be because of it too. Will give it a week or so for body to settle with reduced calcium supplement and periods. Hopefully bloating and all subsides soon.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Well I was very fortunate to have an uneventful recovery. The one change that has been hardest for me is to slow down my eating. Try it once and you will see. Or better yet start slowing down now for practice. I also for some reason have been able to eat more than expected at every stage so I have to measure everything. It has been a little adjustment to stop eating when I don’t feel full yet but honestly I think that it just a mind thing because after a few minutes I realize I am satisfied even if I don’t feel that full to the brim feeling. Another thing that is hard is not comparing your journey to others. I have been a slow loser from the start but many people continue to lose up to two years so just cause the weight doesn’t come off super fast doesn’t mean that it won’t. Just listen to your team and trust the process.

    Five years!

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my sleeve surgery. I am so glad I did this, and wish I'd done it years ago! It hasn't been without struggles, and I had hiatal hernia surgery in June 2021 because my sleeve had "slipped" up into my chest cavity. Still... all is good, I am SO MUCH BETTER since having the hernia repair, and I have kept all my weight off. I am just happy, and want to say to those with doubts... YOU CAN DO THIS!!
