    Dumping or something else?

dumping is when you eat too much sugar (or for some people, fat) at one sitting, and your intestines go into overdrive trying to deal with it. It involves sweating and/or chills, dizziness, rapid heart beat, and diarrhea, usually. Some people get nauseated, too - but that's supposedly not as common. you said it happened after you drank a protein shake. Did the protein shake have sugar in it? If not, it could have been the lactose or whatever artificial sweetener they use. Those typically don't cause dumping, but some people are very intolerant of them and that can also cause the symptoms you mentioned. or it just could have been your stomach rebelling against...something. I had that kind of thing happen occasionally the first couple of months out. I'd eat something one day and be fine - and then eat it another day and my pouch would rebel. Just keep monitoring it and see if some kind of pattern emerges. If yes, it could be dumping or it could be a reaction to lactose or some artificial sweetener (and you'll figure out what's setting it off sooner or later). If there's no pattern, it may have just been some random thing that may or may not happen again. Your pouch may have just been unhappy for some reason...

I have been using Barimelt and they are really good, but turns out you have to take more of them to get the recommended dosage which can get pretty expensive. I’ve ordered some from Unjary. I’ve heard they are pretty good so we’ll see.

UPDATE: I go in this week for another regular check up with my family doc and so today he had me get my cholesterol and my A1C done again. My LDL was 137 which is weird cause it was 135 in September. I would think it would have improved and gone down more. NOT go up.....even if it isn't up by much. My A1C was 5.6 down from 5.8 in September. I would have thought that would have gone down more too. Especially since last March it was 6.7 and went to 5.8 in September last year. BIG difference in just 6 months. So why was this last 6 months not so good? Also been stalled for about that same amount of time. These things make me think even more that maybe I should have stayed at my normal Metformin dose so I'll definitely be talking about that this week with my doctor. As much as I wanted to come off the meds it just may have been too soon. EDITED TO ADD: So even though I have an appointment with him this week he called me to go over the results already. He said my sugar numbers are excellent and responding well but the cholesterol isn't responding as well but it isn't terrible. Anyway, he mentioned Metformin and my weight loss and stuff and then I briefly said that I wanted to discuss it and why and he then mentioned that there are better medications than Metformin that accomplish the same stuff for my sugars but also help with weight loss so we'll talk about that this week too. Not sure what medication he is thinking about but I guess I'll see.

Oh wow. I hate that you went thru that. I'm glad I'm choosing to take off 2 weeks instead of just one.

Went to the support group, now cold feet?

I don't know your age, situation, weight, other health problems, etc. If you think you can do this without surgery, then do it without surgery. I am not being sarcastic. It is a huge, life-altering decision and if I could do it without surgery, I would. But the surgery isn't just another way of saying, "Eat right and exercise." I understand what your husband is saying: with or without surgery, you will have to watch what you eat and stay active. But I struggle to explain to people how the surgery changed me, in terms of my relationship with food. Bypass/sleeve doesn't just make your stomach physically smaller; it changes the hormones from your stomach. My cravings for food are so much weaker and different; I don't crave rich foods (I am much more likely to crave saltines than cake). More than any time in my life, I see food simply as fuel rather than a source of pleasure/joy. I choose foods as much for how they will make my stomach feel than how they taste (my stomach will find it much easier to digest fish than steak, so I am much more likely to order salmon at a restaurant than sirloin). It's easier to stay disciplined when you don't even feel the same tug toward the foods that destroyed your old diets.
