I'd also tell him about the hernia for sure. I went back to my surgeon 7 years after my sleeve with severe hiatal hernia symptoms. He did an EGD, and as soon as I woke up told me he saw the hernia and had scheduled my revision surgery for the following week. Hernia and GERD are two very good reasons to revise to bypass as it should help with both. As others have said though, don't expect as much weight loss with the revision as with the original surgery. One other thought, I had great luck using my sleeve with a combination of time restricted feeding and keto. I only ate between noon and 6pm (lunch at noon, dinner by 6pm, no snacking) and generally followed keto guidelines. This is the insulin control diet regimen recommended by Dr. Jason Fung. I dropped 20 pounds in a couple months and found it was easy as since my sleeve I didn't have a great deal of hunger.

New & Needing Post-Op Diet Advice

I still get a lot of gurgling, especially if I eat too fast or drink with a straw because it allows a lot of air to get in there. I never did the puree stage. I did 2-3 weeks liquids, then soft foods, then regular foods. I skipped pureed because I don't care for that texture. I turned out just fine. 😁

New & Needing Post-Op Diet Advice

I had the Gastric Sleeve procedure done almost a month ago. I've had no issues with the Full Liquid Diet stage, but when it came to transitioning to purees, it felt as though my stomach wasn't happy. It was suggested that it could have been the foods I was eating (too acidic, diary, etc) or that they weren't pureed enough. Other suggestions were that I wasn't eating slow enough. But sometimes, as soon as I took one bite my stomach would immediately start gurgling or I'd get the instant pain of acid reflux/heartburn. I am supposed to start "Soft Solids" on Saturday, but I fear with the trouble I faced with the purees...that I might need an extra week. I've had no issues with eating yogurt, jello, pudding, or soup (which is what I've tried to stick with since I know how my body will react). But with anything else I've tried, it is either the immediate gurgling or acid reflux/heartburn feeling. Is this something commonly experienced or something I should inform my doctor about? Kay_G_B

    Confused

Week 4 for me but each doctor has different guidelines. Yes you can add applesauce or unsweetened milk to it.

    In pain

"buyers' remorse"/regret after surgery is really really common. You are in a LOT of pain right away, and you can't eat anything to comfort yourself like you are used to. I felt some regret for about the first 4 months, which is unusual, but I didn't get the regret until the end of the first month. Every day the pain gets better (if it starts getting worse, call your surgery center!). Drinking two oz of water every hour doesn't sound bad, as long as it moves in an upward trend. I found that keeping a bottle of water/fluid in my hand or right by my side on the couch helped a lot, especially because at the beginning it hurt to move. I hope you feel better soon!

    In pain

you just had major surgery. Of course its gonna be painful for a little bit. That is the part everyone has to get thru to achieve their goal. Take the pain medication they prescribed and you will get thru it.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

You guys, I am getting so close to my 2 week diet and I am so excited about it. 2 weeks ago I cut out coffee, this week I cut out sugar and so far I have been feeling pretty good. I'm confident that starting my two week diet on the 22nd will be a fairly easy transition on the home stretch to this goal. I need to lose weight ( I gained 120lbs. since November 2019). I was active duty Air Force for 15 years before and this weight has been accompanied with a lot of stress. We lost our baby at 25 weeks in August 2020 - my ultimate reason for this procedure is fertility. I really hope to be pregnant as a result of all this .. and be a super cute mom who can't teach her kids the same bad habits that I picked up by default.

    Secret

Yeah, honestly many people are less observant than we give them credit for 😂. I told a few very select people after surgery, a few months out. Every one of them was shocked, and believed I’d just been losing weight because they saw me exercising a lot and being mindful of what I ate. Like…yeah, that’s me doing my part to make the surgery successful. At this point I’m at a stable goal weight and lost a bit more than 175 lbs over the past few years. I’m still glad I limited who I told.

Don't even mention having a procedure. Start talking now about switching to a keto diet (Your future diet will match that story. Also mention going to the gym or starting some exercise program. That's what I did, and no one questions me.

Yeah I hate lying too but knowing the people I know they are gonna ask for details. And I really don't want to say anything. So I just want to steer them away from it. 😒 when the closest people to you disapprove it's kinda hard relying on them for support.
