    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

    Day 2 and I’m feeling really good! I was home 7 hours after checking into the hospital. Anesthesia kicked my butt so I slept for hours. I wouldn’t say pain but discomfort and exhaustion initially. I went for a walk this morning and made it around the whole block. Now it’s just focusing on hydration. How is everyone else doing?

    You have done so well, huge pat on the back. You are juggling so many things at the moment and the resurgence of Covid can not help with your mental health. You have had a little holiday and have done no damage to your weight, which is a big thing. Hopefully you will get a speedy appointment with the counsellor and get your mojo back. Imagine not being able to wear your 187 pound clothes and have to go up a size again ..... Thats a slippery slope. There are people on here who have got to your weight who can advice you better than I. I am only a beginner on this journey but I wish you well and will follow you because I know I will need the advice too

    February 2nd was my day. So far, minimal pain. Nothing needed more than Tylenol. I’m surprised. I had the revision from the sleeve to the roux-en-y. Best decision I’ve made ever for myself. This is definitely different in feelings for food-not hungry even the slightest and still cooked breakfast for my Mr with no nausea or desire for a bite. I’ll be full liquid diet for 2 weeks. After the sleeve I kept saying I was hungry and they called it head hunger, I tried to convince myself that’s what it was, lol, but no-i was genuinely hungry. Now working on 64 ounces of water a day and taking my needed meds throughout the day so I can get them all in. Need 60-80 grams protein but not there yet. 10 grams is all I’ve gotten in since surgery. Have been reads it this is only temporary and I’ll be able to drink more of the protein drink eventually. I’ll be honest, the stings from the shots to prevent blood clots is worse than my belly pain. I’ll do those for two weeks twice a day. Done in Iowa and so excited. Oh and I’m in a wheelchair because of fractures in my pelvis. Got an upright walker and am able to start taking steps!! It’s all so new, I’m loving the excitement this has brought with it.     I also love Greek yogurt and granola. Where I would have eaten it every day before surgery, I now eat it just occasionally. I eat Nature's Path Love Crunch because the sugar, fat and calories are lower than the type I used to eat. I also switched to high protein/zero sugar Greek yogurt. I eat pretty much everything I used to eat, but in healthier versions and a lot smaller portions. Find what works for you to avoid feeling deprived and sad that you need to "give up" certain foods.     Thank you everyone. I’ve known the possibility of regain was there. It was one of the reasons I was ok with exceeding my weight loss goal - room to move. The challenging aspects for me is in understanding why. I can accept the return of hunger but the fact I haven’t changed my diet or calorie intake (except for those two Christmas weeks) & if anything I’m a little more active (not building muscle so I can’t blame that 😉) messes with my head. And I know it’s only a very small amount so far but … more reflection & introspection needed I think. Anyway, I love a lamb cutlet as you know so last night I baked some with a pistachio dukkha crust. Those brown crunchy bits were super yummy. Ate two last night, two tonight & will freeze the last two. I love this baking tray. It was originally my mum’s biscuit tray. She gave it to me 35 odd years ago. I use it for everything including roasts, baked vegetables, as a drip tray, etc. If it goes into the oven I use the tray - hence the darker, burnt baked in flavour you can see in the corners 😁. Do you have a favourite cooking pot or pan? PS - looking gorgeous as usual @Sophie7713.

    I forgot to mention to do be very careful with the Barrett’s esophagus. My husband had esophageal cancer. He is now a seven year survivor, thank God. It was a horrible ordeal, though. He can still eat very little and gets sick a lot. It sure seems like at least the hernia repair at minimum would be covered. I used to work with some surgeons who would accept insurance for the covered part and then you had to self pay for additional parts of the procedure, maybe the surgeon can work something out for you.

    Not losing weight

    What did your medical team say at your first check up? If they weren’t concerned by your slow loss you probably don’t need to worry too much. Remember they’ve seen it all & understand the vagaries of weight loss. We all lose at our own rate. If it is really worrying you, ensure you measure/weigh & record everything you eat & drink & have a chat with your dietician & medical team. Sometimes a small tweak can make a difference. @WildWill has a point. What I weigh at my doctors & what I weigh at home is never the same. I always weigh more at my doctors. Clothing, time of day, empty/full bladder, empty/full bowel, how much you’ve eaten or drunk, all affect the number on the scale. My doctors monitor my weight based on their records & I do it based on my own records. If they’re happy I’m happy. A loss is a loss. (Or maintaining is maintaining as in my situation now.)
