    First Appointment Jitters

I am new to the group (first post). I have my very first appointment in a few days and I am SO NERVOUS! I have done tons of research and decided that RNY is the best option for me due to my severe GERD. I have a BMI of 37.8 and two co-morbidities. I have made notes of all my health issues and reasons why I want the surgery. I’ve been rehearsing the question “why do you want the surgery” with my husband and my answer is a rambling mess. I get so nervous and talk too much and try to sound educated. Good grief, I could use some solid advice. This first appointment is SO important to me. I don’t want to mess it up and not get a second appointment with the dietitian. S.O.S.

Oh don't worry, they aren't going to quiz you. They're going to go over your past history of dieting, comorbidities, etc. They're going to ask you which surgery you want. They're going to ask you if you have any questions. You don't have to be an expert. And it's okay to be nervous. It's a big deal.

    My Face Is Broken!

Yep. Further, at 9 months post-op, I renewed my passport early (2 years before it was set to expire) because it was getting annoying/stressful having to explain that i was in fact me at airports. Im 3+ yrs post op now and a few months ago, I renewed my driver’s license and its nice to not have to explain my appearance to the people at the liquor store when I get carded. Though getting carded at all is an NSV in itself cuz im like 50 years old. Lol. Congrats, and enjoy the broken face!

    First Appointment Jitters

My first appointment literally lasted 5 minutes... Just brought in prior medical history which the assistant looked over and she asked some questions and then the surgeon came in and talked about the procedure quickly and quickly looked over the assistants notes and that was it. Never asked why i wanted the surgery just asked which surgery i want.

yes, all pretty normal but you might have to consider going to hospital for IV fluids if you are having a hard time getting fluids in. you really don't want to get to the point of being rushed to hospital because you have collasped

Sorry to hear that you're so fatigued, but I think it's normal considering how few calories you're taking in and the fact that you just had major surgery and your body is diverting all energy to healing. You really need to get that liquid in to avoid dehydration. Try some sugar-free popsicles, they count as liquid and it is easily tolerated. The crying is the hormone release from the surgery. It's very common. Hang in there. We're here for you.

    My Face Is Broken!

Don’t know about you but I think this is the best non scale victory ever - even though it’s hindering you being able to access secure apps. Just think your phone is seeing that you have cheek bones, fewer chins, less droopy eyelids, improved facial definition, etc. even if you don’t yet. Time to look more closely in your mirror I think @lizonaplane. It’s wonderful. Love it.

    Living with a new stomach?

I agree with Grady Cat. The whole point of the surgery is that your stomach is smaller so you won't eat as much. Also, as far as not enjoying food - unfortunately, that comes back for almost all of us. I say "unfortunately" because it will never in your life be as easy as it is right now to lose weight when you don't want to eat and don't give a flip about food. Take FULL advantage of that! Your hunger and appetite will eventually come back sometime during the first year (or at least it does for the vast majority of us - mine came back at five months out), and once it does, things will become a lot more challenging. So I know this sounds weird to say, but enjoy it while it lasts! I wish my hunger had never come back! P.S. I should add that you do need to meet your nutritional requirements, so at least eat what you need to eat for that. But food will just be fuel for you for awhile...
