I went to solids at 4 weeks as well. I was dying for real food after 5 weeks pre op liquid only diet, and 3 weeks of full solids and soft foods. I slow cooked some beef stew all day. It was absolutely divine.

    January Surgery buddies

Hey! I had mine in the 11th. It hurt when I breathed in the day and morning after but as I keep using the spirometer it gets easier and easier and the breathing stops hurting. Definitely keep using it. Or just taking deep slow breaths. Probably if it keeps hurting, reach out to your surgeon. Wishing you a speedy recovery ♥️ WE ARE BADASSES.

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and everything goes down almost too well. I'm on soft foods until 6 weeks out and then I can try everything. Sushi and sashimi went down well even though I could only have 2-3 pieces. I chew and chew everything I eat.

I'm getting the bypass on Feb. 21st. I'm also concerned that it could end up being pushed back. I've been preparing for months, which also means I've stopped taking a medicine for my psoriatic arthritis and it's getting very difficult. I've lost 20 lbs. though. I'm mostly off of caffeine and carbonation (I've had it on occasion, but very rarely- it's just not part of my daily life any more). I don't cook, so I still struggle with what I'm eating. I just have a few go to foods and eat a lot less. i need a better meal plan. I'm well stocked with protein drinks/powders/waters that have helped me though.

    VSG

Oh wow you are not that big in my opinion. I remember being 190lb and i am 5'4 in high school. if i was 190lb now i personally would not be getting surgery. But thats me. Good luck on your surgery.

I started on Depo and Prozac in Dec. 2017. At the time, I had lost 40lbs from my highest weight. Within a year, I had gained it all back. Its hard to say how much was from each, as they are both well known for weight gain. That being said, I had VSG in Sept. 2021, so nearing 4 months post-op and I've lost about 65lbs. About 20 of that was pre-op, 45 post-op. I figure that's pretty average, given my starting BMI, age, etc. I'm now 10lbs lower than I was before I started the meds, and at my lowest ever adult weight and the loss seems to be holding pretty steady week over week.

    Do hiccups mean anything?

I get hiccups when I'm "full" every single time I eat. I've learned to eat VERY slowly and as soon as the first one comes, I stop eating. The rare times I've tried to eat past that point, I've been miserably sick. Runny noses, sneezes, and other odd "symptoms" can be full queues for WLS patients due to the anatomical changes made in the vagus nerve during surgery. Totally normal and for most people it goes away with time. But it can be a really helpful benchmark for learning your new body, so I would say slow down and allow time between each bite to see if/when the hiccups trigger.

Glad you asked this question! I’ve been thinking about soup too and wasn’t sure what to do.
