Hello! The best advice I can give being almost 7months out is don’t over think everything and don’t beat yourself up during the learning process. Get 1oz and 2oz containers with lids for food storage post op, they are a life saver! I ordered protein and vitamins before surgery and started using both before surgery to make sure I liked them and could handle them. Good luck!!! It’s so worth it!

Try mixing the crystal light flavors or mix it with more water than it calls for. You can test this by just adding more water to half a glass of it so you don’t waste a whole packet. Also if you mix a gallon it takes two packets normally so you can mix two different flavors. I like the fruit punch but it’s too sweet but not sweet enough if I mix with more water so I mix fruit punch packet with the more mild watermelon one that’s Walmart brand and it’s just right. I sound like Goldilocks lol.

Premade protein shakes or protein waters are great in the early days. For foods, I ate a lot of refried beans, hummus, thick soups, etc. and would just add unflavored protein powder (Isopure) to everything. Once you progress to solid foods, it gets easier to get more protein in without supplementing.

Let's just start over! Here's a great idea! I've done this with people that hate water. Maybe try making a slushie! Blend your ice with any flavor low sugar . Even the dollar store sells Hawaiian punch flavor sugar free. Eating ice can be easier. Try freezing your protein smoothie. Make it like a soft serve. If your protein powder is lousy that's hard. Get a vanilla flavored one. Freezing makes all the difference. You feel like your eating and yet it's getting your food intake it. It's like a melted frosty. I've been worried case my weight loss has been so slow compared to everyone else. But you can stall right out of the gate. Your body has to get used to everything again. My surgery was Nov 26 and finally lost 18 pounds. But I'm not getting my walks in. My fault I need a new hip. Good luck with the slushie! God bless Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

Update - I needed a 3rd surgery. There were 2 areas that scar tissue developed and chocked off areas. Not allowing food to pass. I had it this morning. He said it will take a few weeks for stomach to heal but I should be able to stop the IV nutrition in a week or 2.

I am 42, 5’8” started at 235, currently 169 and losing and I do not have any loose Skin nor did I lose any hair yet and I am almost 9 months out. I was very lucky in recovery and i was able to get my protein in from day one (i think that helped with the hair) I imagine if I get too much smaller I may still get some loose skin but like catwoman said it should not be extreme. My NP said just not to expect to have a six pack. Fingers crossed. I think that’s really all we can do.

Don’t stock up with too much stuff pre up though, our tastes can change. Especially for sweet stuff like protein shakes. Those shakes I loved pre surgery tasted disgusting afterwards.

    “Real” food vs Bariatric foods

I'm about 8 months out and I could easily get my protein from 'normal' food however I choose to have 1 protein shake per day because I like it for breakfast and also then I just don't have to think about protein again for the rest of the day because I know I'll hit the rest through food no problem. But if you had eggs for breakfast, greek yogurt and fruit for snack, lunch meat and cheese for lunch, jerky and nuts for snack, meat and veggie for dinner you'd easily hit your goal for the day once you are able to consume a few oz at a time and you'd have a pretty balanced day.

Someone I know developed an intolerance to protein mostly in meat form after surgery maybe this has happened to you too and that in turn has turned you off eating because you now associate eating with being physically sick. I agree woth the others stick to food you can eat without reaction until you get it sorted. I think its perecftly normal for you to feel the way you doing given what you are experiencing. Hope you find answers and feel better soon

    January Surgery buddies

I was lucky enough to start my preop today (Christmas). My family each made a favorite appetizer and we spent the day together. I had to leave them today because I couldn't be around all of the food today. They are very supportive and understand. Just about to make my second shake. Stay strong! We've got this.
