Day 5 - Tired, hungry, pain. Normal?

Thanks, Catwoman. How about the hunger? I am actually wondering if the hunger is my thyroid medication. I take two forms: slower release T4 hormone and quick release T3 hormone. I kind of suspect the T3 stimulates appetite. And yeah, I didn't realize how major the hiatal hernia repair was. The surgeon said things like, "We lifted your stomach, pulled it down, and put it back in its cavity" and something about pushing the diaphragm. I have a feeling that procedure was more major than the sleeve procedure.

    Aquatic Exercise

I noticed after losing over 200 lbs that I actually SANK instead of floated! I've gained about 20 lbs back since then so I'm not a sinker anymore, but on the other hand, it takes a lot more effort to tread water than it did when I weighed almost 400 lbs! I think swimming is the only exercise where it's actually easier to do when you're carrying around extra fat!

    Bariatric Therapy

My therapist I’ve been seeing for about 2 years has helped me in various way to deal with the issues of my ptsd. She is also helping me to look at myself to figure out what is triggering my bad eating habits. Finding a reputable a therapist that firsts helps sort out your emotional needs. Second check by asking if they can help you with your emotions that triggers your bad habits of eating. Insurance will pay for a therapist that treats for emotional issues. A therapist with the added help with eating is usually from emotional issues. You need to check your insurance of therapist that they cover. Then start researching and calling them with the questions along with helping clients with emotional issues do you also help clients learn to look at the emotions that trigger the bad eating habits.

    Exercises

your butt shape will change after all the weight loss. Mine was pretty saggy - but I had a lower body lift which tightened it up. Usually lower body exercises like squats and lunges will help with glutes - but again, your shape will change pretty fast, and there's not a lot you can do to help the sagginess with the amount of weight we typically lose. immediately after surgery, all I was cleared for was walking. After four weeks, I was allowed to do everything except for weights. At eight weeks out, I was cleared for weights. The first few months I did mostly water fitness classes - and walking. I also did the stationary bikes at my gym. Now I do dance cardio (like Zumba) and biking, but I was too heavy to do those when I first started on my journey.

What about the fresh ready meal companies if you have access to them? Most have menu plans for various eating plans but you still will have to be vigilant on the nutritional & caloric content of each meal & portion control. One of the ready meals may last you for two meals at the moment. Like many frozen meals & supermarket ready meals, many of the fresh ready meals are pasta or rice based so remember to avoid those. When you say you don’t cook, will you cook/reheat/microwave/prep simple things? You don’t have to be a cordon Bleu chef to toss a salad together (throw in some tinned beans for a protein boost) or microwave some fresh or frozen vegetables then add meat from a grocery store bbq chicken or roast meat, or some deli meats, smoked salmon, tinned salmon or tuna, etc. I ate rolled oats made on milk with some seeds (oats are a good carb which many plans allow from early stages) - couple of mins in the microwave & ready. Find a good high protein yoghurt & a low fat cheese. Eggs are also easy & barely cooking: boiled or fried in a non stick pan. Would you try some frozen oven bake fish in the oven? (Just scrape off the batter & crumbs once cooked.)

I get that you are frustrated and perhaps angry. Honestly, it's not too late for you, unless you give up. Your surgery is still there. It will make what you still need to do easier. From what I see you have received good advice: Follow your plan to the letter, weigh your food, log your food, don't drink with meals. These things are what will get you losing weight. These are also the things you refuse to do. It seems you would rather quit and blame the surgery. As with all things, it's your life, it's your choice. Good luck, Tek

    Gastric sleeve

they usually quote you the statistical average, because *statistically*, that's where most people end up. And as with any statistic, you'll always find people who lose more or less than the average. Some people end up losing 90% or 100% of their excess weight, and some people only lose 30 or 40 lbs and/or gain all their weight back. Like some others have said, WLS is just a tool - and your success depends on how you use it. If you're really committed and follow your program to a "T", you're likely to lose a lot more than what you were quoted. You'll find lots of examples of that here on this site.

    Extremely Dilated Fundus...Anyone Else?

Update! I appealed the denial, appeal was denied again, took the next step which was an external review from a 3rd party company, and they deemed the revision medically necessary so now my insurance is legally bound to uphold that decision and cover it 100%. It took a while, but I won! More excited about winning the insurance battle than I even am about the surgery, but I know it will sink in soon.
