    Goal #1: COMPLETE!

Had my RNY October 5th. I was diabetic, so getting off those meds was goal #1. After the 2-week pre-op diet, I had come off all my meds, but was hesitant to say I would be free from those after surgery. Had my appointment with my diabetes doc at 4-weeks post-op, she declared my diabetes was now in remission, and we said our goodbyes! Daily glucose sticks are between 80-92...no matter when I test them! Goal #2...reduce size & get back to feeling "normal", whatever that will be!

So... what happens when you stop checking out the forums every day and quit tracking? Well, for me it means weight gain. Hit my low of about 165 and then... well... then, essentially have been on a bender since then. It's been about a month. I know what I have to do, I just have to actually DO IT. I'm up 4lbs and can't seem to shake it. I'm NOT going over 170 again, but I have to find that happy medium between starving myself and gorging myself. My solution: start holding myself accountable. I'm starting over today. Tracking, posting, and weighing daily. For others out there in the same boat, don't give up or give in. Take it one day at a time and don't let setbacks get you down.

There are many factors that affect your rate of loss: age, gender, starting weight, genetics, etc. Some are slow losers others are fast losers to begin. The rate you lose doesn’t affect the amount of weight you will lose. There are slow losers who reach their goal & fast losers who don’t. Don’t worry too much about your weight loss immediately post surgery. You have swelling, possibly still retaining fluids, your body is under stress, etc. Some surgeons even advise not to weigh yourself for a couple of weeks after surgery because of this. There are a couple of things you can rely upon. We all lose at our own rate & your rate of loss will slow as you get closer to goal. Every pound you lose is a win. Congrats on your surgery.

    Post op day 2

Post op day 12 Praise be, purées, praise be! i am human again 🙌 ok, so last night (so mere hours from purées day), I had about 2 oz of the most delicious mashed potatoes and gravy from Popeyes. My husband was ordering and i said “oooo order me mash and gravy”. I also had 3 tiny pinches of the biscuit. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! And this morning I had 2 oz applesauce. And then for lunch and dinner I had 2 oz of the best grits of my entire life. i tried a protein water today. Ick! I need to find something i don’t know how some people don’t want the foods they used to eat. It’s all I think about. It’s a little concerning. I think about stuffing myself with all the food. I miss being able to overeat. Obviously, I want to change otherwise I wouldn’t have had this surgery. But if anyone thinks this is the cure to your food desires, it simply isn’t true. I truly don’t know if I will see the success others do. Time will tell.

Whenever my weight goes up by a couple of pounds, I find the way to get the scale moving in the right direction again is to drink more water and track it. Maybe that would work for you, too?

You will Figure out that magic balance between the two. At least you realized it now, you can do this.

Newby full of anxiety and questions

Beware of ordering a bunch of protein drinks before surgery. My tastes changed post-surgery and the protein shakes I was happily drinking pre-surgery became intolerably sweet. I now have two giant tubs of the stuff that I wasted my money on, as I can now only tolerate one flavour of the protein water I use. In glorious hindsight, I wish I'd just bought a small container to trial! My uncontrollable need to have a plan backfired on me.

    Thoughts about slowish loss

You've lost 31.8% of your excess weight in 7 weeks. 1/3 of your excess weight in less than 2 months. I lost about 13% of my excess weight in my first 2 months. I made it to goal and past goal, and am still at a normal BMI. You've convinced yourself you are not doing well when, in fact, you are doing extraordinarily well. Get off the scale. It's the devil. Continued success and good luck. Tek
