    After surgery diabetes

Positive post for people living with diabetes and in the pre op phase. I became a diabetic at 29 in 2018 my first blood sugar reading was 329 A1C 13.5.I was put on meds metaformin and insulin, but changed my lifestyle and was running too many lows so was taken off. In 2020 I started to get real bad yeast infections( TMI) checked my blood sugar 521 A1C 11.5 scheduled an appointment with a endocrinologist was put on humalog and trujao soloster. After getting my A1C down to 6. I was put on ozempic and trujao. Two weeks after surgery I was told discount all meds and that I didn’t have to see my endocrinologist anymore. Since surgery resting sugar is always 70 never below and after a meal in the 90’s the highest it’s been was 104. Sorry for the long post but I wanted you all to know my struggle. Btw I had surgery 3/3. I hope others who are undergoing surgery due to weight and diabetes get the same blessing!

I haven’t had surgery yet, but my instructions say to only add 1 solid food at a time and to see how it goes.

    My mammogram didn’t hurt??

I've been having mammograms for years and pre-/post- experiences have been the same except for one instance where the technician was so adept that, like you, I experienced no pain at all. But what did happen to me after surgery was that I was summoned back for an ultrasound because apparently there was something within my left breast that needed further examination. Fortunately, nothing was wrong, and the technician told me that I had lost so much weight that my past and current mammograms looked extremely different and this was why the doctors were taking a second look.

Regrets for a Food & Wine Lover?

This post really made me think about my relationship with food and drink again. I’m three months out with my bypass tool. I did graze one weekend on Greek style pizza and wine. I really enjoyed the company, could enjoy the wine with only two ounces. I did pack away 4 slices over 2 hours though. I had to really work hard a solid week to get back to my weight before that gathering. Looking back, the free laughter outside with friends was what I enjoyed. It felt like the openness pre-Covid. Keeping the feelings and why needs to be in front all the time. I am reminded that surgery is just a tool. Being social with friends safely is precious, and my physical health doesn’t need to take a toll. I’m going to track on an online app next time and plan ahead better. But you won’t have to stop socializing either, because I equate socializing with positive mental health. Like me you will have to evaluate your food and drink pitfalls and navigate through your strengths and weaknesses. For me, each gathering, each person, each situation is different. I have go into the next one with a better plan, but I promise I will still enjoy the socializing!

Regrets for a Food & Wine Lover?

This was one of my concerns also. I am a total foodie that loves having a wine and snack night with my husband. After surgery I didn’t drink wine for about 3 months…..I really didn’t want to….even when my mind was craving it. When I did try it again, it took me hours to sip on maybe 2 ounces of wine. I didn’t feel tipsy or anything….I just wanted water more. I am 4+ months out now and can drink a whole glass, slowly. If food/snacks are involved it takes me a lot longer. The thing is I now have to listen to my (much smaller) stomach for cues on when to stop eating/drinking and not what my head is telling me I want. The thing is, it doesn’t bother me in the way I thought it would. I can still have a fun time shooting the s%it with the family while eating and drinking (way) less. I have no regrets.

    Pre-op diet weight loss

Looks like the others have already covered it. I agree completely that the most important thing you can learn here is to NOT compare yourself to others. I am a slow loser as well and I am now 11 pounds from a normal BMI and still losing.

    Gummy Vitamins/ibuprofen

Honestly, I only had to take little baby sips for a few days. I could take water no problem after that. Now I do split my supplements into a couple of "rounds" (at least until I get those vitamins that @lizonaplane recommended!) because the amount of water I need to take that many pills does fill my pouch.

On November 8th I will be 11 months out. Next month is my Anniversary date of my surgery. I’m so excited and amazed and the little small things I wasn’t able to do before my WLS that I’m able to do now. I done this for myself and my health and glad I finally made that decision. I was literally killing myself and had to get a really eye -opener. Thank You GOD for second chance

    After surgery diabetes

wow, that's amazing!! I needed to read this today! My decision to seriously consider WLS was motivated by my uncontrolled diabetes. I've been struggling for years to get my blood sugar under control with little success. Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm nervous about the surgery but I know that my diabetes is slowly killing me and I have to do this for my long term health. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    After surgery diabetes

Diabetes is cured by WLS like 80% of the time...that's exactly why I had it! (I was pre-diabetic, but with my symptoms getting worse and only 5 years younger than when my dad got it, I knew I was about to get it.) It's so fascinating that drastic diabetes improvements are seen right after surgery - not just after the weight is lost. Just like you experienced! Congrats!
