    CPAP on Surgery Day

    I'm in much the same boat as @ColieCallwell, but I'm waiting for my sleep doctor to re-evaluate my settings (or if I need it at all).

    What do you consider "Starting Weight"?

    I use my weight at the start of the 2-week pre-op diet. That was my highest weight ever and an even 200.0 lbs. Makes the calculations easy! 😉

    What do you consider "Starting Weight"?

    I start from the day I called the surgery center. I had a higher weight years earlier, then lost 100lbs through tracking calories, but then gained MOST but not all of it back, the last 30 lbs of that during COVID. I lost 50 lbs during preparations for surgery, but only 2 lbs of that was on the "pre-op diet".

    I use my highest weight. I lost 24 during COVID on my own, then regained 10 before I started with the bariatric clinic. That high figure represents the beginning of my journey, not the weight when I started at the clinic.

    You'll know a lot closer to then what you can and can't eat. Some people can't eat steak, because it's too dry. Some people can't eat pasta or bread because it expands too much in their pouch. Everyone is different. I will say this, though... you're likely not to be able to come anywhere close to eating an entire three-course Italian meal. If you don't speak Italian, you might want to take a little card with you that says something like Mi hanno operato allo stomaco e non posso mangiare molto. Per favore, mi serva piccole porzioni.

    NOT excercising at all

    I stopped exercising after a couple of months (I was walking on my treadmill) because of my low energy & low blood pressure. The day I almost fell off due to being so tired & light headed I decided enough. It’s true. Exercise contributes very little to actual weight loss. But it does contribute to your general health. It also increases your appetite to compensate for the calories you’ve burnt. I still don’t exercise but try to be active in other ways. Dash up & down the stairs in my house. Park further away from where I’m going. Walk at a pace around shopping centres etc. Take stairs when possible. Walk to the local shops. It all helps.

    When I had my VSG I was 278.2 the week before surgery, 271 when discharged, and 258.3 at my post-op appointment 10 days later. I had very minimal bruising or swelling that time. When I had my revision (8 months later due to gerd), I was 222 a week before surgery, left the hospital at 234.4 (was there 4 days due to needing iron), and was 215.7lbs at my one week post-op appointment. I had loads of bruising this time around. The picture is from a week post-op and I still had visible bruising at 20 days post-op (second picture) though it never hurt.
