    Five years!

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my sleeve surgery. I am so glad I did this, and wish I'd done it years ago! It hasn't been without struggles, and I had hiatal hernia surgery in June 2021 because my sleeve had "slipped" up into my chest cavity. Still... all is good, I am SO MUCH BETTER since having the hernia repair, and I have kept all my weight off. I am just happy, and want to say to those with doubts... YOU CAN DO THIS!!

    Surgery scheduled for 11/1

Hi. I just found this forum. I'm starting my 2 week diet on the 18th of October, and I need advice on what to plan. I'm also struggling with knowing what needs to stop, when, and for how long. Also, concerned about the excess skin one the weight comes off. Thanks.

    Hi, I’m new here

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you are, say, 5'5", getting from a BMI of 60 to a non-obese BMI of 30 would mean an additional weight loss of 180 lbs. (on top of the other 80 lbs.) which even the most hardened insurance company would see requires surgery. But definitely ask your bariatric center for guidance and access to a nutritionist/dietitian to help you get those 80 lbs. down.

    Weight loss just stop

Like @Hop_Scotch said, stalls are common and a normal part of any type of weight loss, not just with surgery. Sometimes you just have to keep doing what you are doing. Sometimes it can be helpful to track your intake for a few days to see if you're eating more than you think you are - like on MyFitnessPal. Make sure you're drinking enough, following all your surgery center's guidelines, etc. Plus, weight loss always slows down as you get further from your surgery date and closer to your goal weight. You can't expect to keep losing at the same rate as the first month. Don't Panic!

    Weight loss just stop

Just stop or slow down? Neither is unusual...there will be stalls (that can last weeks) and as the weeks/months progress and you body weight is reduced continued weight loss will slow down a bit. It would be useful though if you completed your profile (not that you have to but gives people context when responding) - date of surgery, type of surgery, surgery day weight, current weight, height etc.

    Hungry or Full?

I’m now on purées too and I have the same issue. I have no idea what is going on with my body. But I just eat very small portions and then try to ignore that hunger feeling cause I don’t want to over do it. But I have no clue. I’m nervous moving forward if my stomach doesn’t figure itself out. Lol

    Spicy food

I misinterpreted something in my paperwork and I was panicked as well. I just called my clinic and the NP assured me if I didn’t have any pain that I was fine. Maybe just give them a ring for peace of mind.

I think of it like this. How does everything I eat fit into the plan. Am I getting protein from it? Is it high in sugar or carbs? Am I getting any nutritional value from it? If not, it is simply too high a price to pay. Thinking from a money analogy, if a piece of cake cost $100, you would do without it, simply not worth it. The same logic is how I treat those foods high in fat, calories and carbs. Not worth the price my body pays. Need a snack? Find something that provides some benefit to you.

    Do/should you eat to restriction?

In the beginning i ate (or tried at least) to eat according to volume. I pre-measured everything and ate what I could from that amount using timed bites. If I ate to restriction, then it would be too late as I found that my signals were delayed and I would just be super uncomfortable. As time went on, I was able to gauge when was enough an didn't need to rely on pre-measured volume anymore. It's a learning process. Listen to your body, learn from your past experiences with food and eating and hopefully you will get the hang of it all in no time. P.S. for further clarification, I was pre-measuring for about 5-6 months then the training wheels came off and I became a pro (sort of, lol) Good Luck! ❤️

    Do/should you eat to restriction?

Yeah, I have the same problem. I just started solid food yesterday and after both meals (1 T of refried beans and then 2 T of tuna fish) I felt pain in my chest so I stopped but then I was hungry an hour later, but we were told not to graze... so I was just hungry. I am hoping it's just that I was eating too fast so if I slow down I can eat enough to be satiated and not full an hour later.
