Don't freak out. There could be a host of reasons why you gained two pounds. Maybe your food's extra salty. Maybe you're under a lot of stress. Maybe it's almost time for the monthly visitor. But do track EVERYTHING. Download MyFitnessPal or MyMacros+ or Baritastic and log LITERALLY EVERYTHING you put in your mouth BEFORE you put it in your mouth. Including water. Including coffee. Including the sugar and cream in your coffee. Including the oil you cook in. Including salad dressing. Weigh things out—don't look at a piece of chicken and say well that's gotta be three ounces, get a $15 scale off Amazon or at Walmart and weigh it out. If you can't figure out how to track it, don't eat it. (You'll need to do this at some point after surgery anyway.) Start "auditioning" protein shakes and protein waters. You'll be surprised how full they make you even pre-surgery, and most are 150-200 calories and give you anywhere from 20-40 g of protein. Start by substituting one meal with the protein shakes. Once you're past that, substitute another meal with a protein shake (add a little salad or something with just a spoonful of dressing if you're still hungry). Drink a cup of water before you eat if you're prone to binging so your stomach's fuller. You got this. It'll come off and your surgeon will say, yep, you're good to go.

I had my original sleeve done in 2016, went from 290 pre-surgery to 195, felt fantastic, no problems at all, they even invited me to have my picture taken for the doctor's advertising! Then I had some personal and professional problems and managed to gain EVERYTHING back. I met with my doctor and he recommended revision, which I am scheduled for some time in November, currently getting my clearances. He said after my endoscopy we'd discuss whether to re-sleeve or convert to bypass. He said if my sleeve was still intact it would have to be a bypass, but if it was dilated I could choose. I had my endoscopy last week and the sleeve is indeed dilated so now I have to make a decision. Another factor is I've had GERD for over 10 years and take esomeprazole daily which helps a lot but I've heard it's not great to take that forever either. I've also heard that bypass usually cures GERD, so that's another consideration. I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone who has either been re-sleeved or converted to bypass so I can have a better understanding of both options before I meet with my doctor again, Thanks!

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my sleeve surgery. I am so glad I did this, and wish I'd done it years ago! It hasn't been without struggles, and I had hiatal hernia surgery in June 2021 because my sleeve had "slipped" up into my chest cavity. Still... all is good, I am SO MUCH BETTER since having the hernia repair, and I have kept all my weight off. I am just happy, and want to say to those with doubts... YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Hello Thank you for the responses. I have lactose intolerance so I avoid that. I've talked to dietician and have been on low fodmap diet to eliminate and add foods back in. Everyone always suggests this first. It isn't food, I wish it was cause that's an easy fix. I've been tested for parasites, yes. I've had colonoscopy, endoscopy, modified barium swallow, 3 CT scans, 2 ultra sounds, too many blood tests to count and 4 or 5 breath tests. Many many prescriptions that don't help. I've been to a naturopath with still no relief. I am hoping to find someone who has had the same things and found help. But I've kind of given up hope at this point.

The hospital prescribed senna and a stool softener. When I hadn't had a BM after a week, they suggested a laxative suppository and miralax. I did both and had a BM a half hour after the suppository. I am now doing miralax every day plus the senna and stool softener. I just started magnesium citrate and will stop the senna and stool softener as they were only prescribed for two weeks. The hospital suggested I needed to increase my fluids and I've now been able to get above 64 oz of fluids the last few days and it's been better. I'm trying to get more activity too, but my incision hurts when I walk. Good luck!

I would certainly contact your surgeon. It sounds like you may have ended up with a case of gastritis from the alcohol irritating your stomach lining. Since we don't have much stomach lining left, it's not hard to make it angry. They should be able to prescribe strong antacids and anti-emetics to get you back on track. Feel better!

3 more day EEEEKKKKK so so so excited!

Hi Jen! I think forming a little group is a great idea! I'm basically in the same boat. Vsg 3 years ago, never got to goal and have gained 10/15 lbs over the last year and a half. I also have pcos and am pre diabetic. I am having a hard time getting back on track and I want to lose about 25/30 lbs. I could really use the support/ motivation from people that are in my shoes.

I had GERD before my VSG surgery in 2014, and it only got worse over the next six years. Nothing helped, including PPI's. Fast forward to 2020. After a bunch of diagnostic tests to verify my GERD/Gastritis/Esophagitis, I had bypass surgery October 2020. I haven't had GERD since. I'm off all acid reflux medications. I've lost 56 lbs. since surgery and feel better than I felt in my 40's (I'm 64). I've got a ton of energy, walk 5 miles five days/week and do aquatic fitness classes 5 day/week. I'm loving my new, healthier self and so glad I made the decision to get the surgery. Yes, it is a life-long decision and I've forever changed how I can eat and process food, but so worth it! Needless to say, I would recommend the revision to anyone with severe GERD.
