I bought a couple of sweaters from Ann Taylor Loft on sale because I have nothing for the colder weather. The size small was not the NSV - but the freedom to not feel like I “shouldn’t” wear a sweater with horizontal stripes was a big one! I didn’t realize how much my mom had instilled that in my head until I was looking at the website and purposefully skipping the ones with horizontal stripes because it would make me look bigger. Well, I got it in the mail yesterday and I think I can now say wearing horizontal stripes will be part of my life! PS - I think anyone at any size should wear what they want and what they feel good in - but my mom hammered into me all of these things about being heavy from like middle school on (suck in your stomach, be in the back behind people so your full body isn’t on display, no horizontal stripes, etc.) so this is just 30 years of baggage I’m trying to unload. Wearing horizontal stripes is major for me.

    8 days till surgery

Mine's in 8 days too, Leslie, and likewise, my nerves are starting to kick in. I'm also not afraid of the surgery, I think it's the life change after. A big life change and a big change being made to my body itself. It's no small thing! The food-addict bit of my brain is having a little last-gasp flail knowing things won't be the same ever again, but it's thankfully being drowned out by the rest of mind that's so very ready for this. I'm picking triumphant, upbeat songs on spotify and playing them on repeat. Along with keeping busy, it helps!

    Drinking with Meals

I've seen a lot of things saying not to drink with meals. The reasoning I've seen is to avoid making you full on water, so you can finish your meal. If you're not having a problem in finishing your meal is there any down to a small amount of drinking while eating? (I don't mean chugging, closer to sipping water occasionally.)

    September Ops

I’m doing pretty well. I definitely still have pain at the incision sites and abdomen in general but it gets better everyday. I am in full liquids for 2 weeks!! 😩 That is definitely the worst part for me!! Glad to hear you’re doing well!! 😊

Go for it - I’m trying to get rid of all of those negative things I was told growing up and, damnit, it starts with stripes. 🤪

6 weeks out, tired, grumpy, & I miss food

I second everything that everyone has said! I am 2 years out and at my goal (I have maintained for the last year) - food tastes normal again, my hair has grown back (actually it grew back ages ago) and I eat out all the time! I can manage entree (Australian size not American size which is much bigger!) and I can eat anything (and believe me, I do!). Life is good so just give it time. It is such early days for you and it will change weekly, monthly and even yearly! All the best!

I'm 8 months out, and I do remember feeling tired of everything at 6 weeks out. I didn't have some of the physical issues, but I was still on full liquids at that point and it felt like it would never end. Remember too that you are probably releasing hormones as you lose weight and an emotional roller coaster is par for the course. I go out to eat regularly, and I eat regularly. Just a lot less than I used to. But the good part is that it does come back, somewhat. I do not feel like a freak at restaurants (I used to), I just get a to-go box. So much of what you are upset about is temporary. There's a light at the end of the tunnel!
