    Pain levels

I was miserable the first two days. Then I used spanx to keep the loose stuff inside still so I wouldn’t feel pulling. I’m four weeks out and still sleep with spanx. I avoided the couch because it was too low and couldn’t get up without pain. I also bought a raised toilet seat to be independent. It was $20 on Carewell.com . Do whatever you need to do to get through it, no shame. You will get through! Talk with your bariatric professionals. They know what’s normal.

    Brand new today!

Based on recommendations from here and my surgeon I took very little. My cell, a charger, chapstick, mouth spray for dry mouth and that's pretty much it (didn't use or need any of it). Oh and a change of clothes and underwear and pads (I got my period the day before surgery). And to be honest, I didn't even use my phone for anything. My husband text everyone who knew I had surgery to let them know how things were going so I didn't have to. Otherwise I was too tired to be bothered with the phone or anything else (just watched TV). Not to mention the nurses coming in what seemed like every hour. I was too occupied with them and the constant walking around and when I wasn't doing that I was watching TV, drinking water, and peeing constantly. LOL And in-between all of that I TRIED to sleep.

    New here

Summerseeker, I hear you! I had a 12 month wait for my health cover because it's an already existing condition. It was long, frustrating and nudged my depression about, but once I had the surgeon/dietician appointments at the end of July, it got a lot easier. I just needed the "this is definitely happening" confirmation that a surgery date gives.

    Pain levels

My discharge info said I shouldn't need painkillers beyond Tylenol after 2-3 days but I was in more pain than that. I took the oxycodone and Lyrica for 3 days and then just Tylenol on the 4th until I broke and had to have more oxycodone on the 5th. That said, everyone's experience and tolerance varies! I feel like my pain may have been worse because my nurses were super unhelpful and didn't show me how to get up safely (there's apparently a trick to it that a lot of people get explained), and I also didn't have any info about needing to sleep sitting up or anything like that. You can always check in with your surgeon if it doesn't start improving too!

Who lost a lot before surgery?

Not a ton. I had bulked up for a strongman contest in April which put me at 376, and today I was 356. I’d love to be under 350 for surgery (yay liquid diet) but if it doesn’t happen before surgery it sure as shootin’ will after surgery. Good luck lizonaplane!! I’m Tuesday so will be following any updates you feel ready to make!

Who lost a lot before surgery?

I lost 57 lbs before surgery (I think about 15 of that was on the two-week pre-op diet, though - so 42 lbs before the pre-op diet). you'll likely lose on the low side the first month after surgery, since for most people, a lot of that huge drop the first month is water weight, and your water weight is long gone. Mine was, too. I lost 16 lbs the first month. after the first month, I don't think it makes a difference if you lost weight pre-surgery or not. surgeons usually quote you the average weight loss (60-70% of your excess weight), because statistically, that's where most people end up. But a statistic is a statistic - there are always people who are going to lose more or less than that. If you really work at it, you can do better than that. I almost never went off my plan and lost 100% of my excess weight.

    Help

My surgeon told me to stock up on Gas-X (simethicone) and to make sure I chew it to basically liquid.

    When can we stop sipping?

You have no idea how much your post just made me feel better. And this isn't even my thread! I am a heavy consumer of h20 but I used to drink it 16oz at a time every couple of hours (getting in 140-180oz per day easy) and this swallow wait swallow wait nonsense is annoying me!
