happens to most (maybe all?) of us. yes - IV fluids. It can take a few days for them to work their way out of your system.

    Sneezing a stupid amount.

Some people have a sneeze as their "full signal". Pay attention to when you are sneezing and see if it correlates to when you eat. It might be your signal too. Better than mine, which is a belch.

I am so incredibly happy for you. I had Gastric Bypass in 2001. Most weight lost AFTER bypass (279) SW (before surgery) - 345 CW - 315. After enduring stage 4 breast cancer in 2010, I gained most of my weight back. I decided to return to my original doctor and request testing to find out if something went wrong with my original surgery. I was told everything was still in tact and I just need to start from SCRATCH! But I explained that I was able to eat a heck of a lot more. And that I would like options as to what can be done to tighten and/or revise my surgery. I believe my doctor was so eager to NOT have any "revisions" needed that he just sent me away - RUDELY! So I decided to ask around and seek a second opinion (of course - years later- because I believed there was something wrong with me). I followed his advise - but still believed something was wrong. Fast forward. I met a woman in my SAME situation and she referred me to her doctor for help. NOW, I am just waiting for an appointment. I will be researching the duodenal switch. I was never given this as an option. I am so excited for you.

Most surgeons give you a plan that starts with a liquid phase. That is for allowing your stomach to heal, but it may end up being less than 500 calories per day. Depending on the plan they give you and how your body adjusts, you may be eating 500-700 during those transitional weeks after surgery. i never track calories, personally. I listen to my body’s signs of fullness and prioritize protein and fresh vegs and fruit. It is possible that consuming too few calories will actually result in your body stalling because it will think you are starving and go into survival mode.

    RNY revision to Duodenal Switch

I haven't had the revision you are contemplating, but I hope you find someone who has to chat with, and I wish you well with it.

Follow the plan given to you by your surgeon or nutritionist/dietitian. If you didn’t get one, find a bariatric nutritionist/dietitian and get a plan. Post-op nutrition is tricky because you need to get in protein, vitamins, and minerals essential to life, but you can’t eat very much. The foods must be nutrient dense and are often very different from what you were eating pre-op. For me, 500cal a day was not enough post-op, I kept getting dizzy when I ate that little.

    anyone over 60?

Hi Elizabeth, I’m 62 (I’ll be 63 in October). I had the sleeve on June 1st of this year. I too was concerned about additional risks since being “old”. My surgeon said that people our age actually do better and have less pain. It turned out to be so true. I only took three half doses of tramadol after surgery and then switched to Tylenol but I’m not sure I even needed that. I even had two flights (three hours and two hours) to go home after surgery. The gas pain didn’t bother me. I hardly noticed it. I also had a hiatal hernia repair so maybe I just felt better with it being fixed. I am short - only 5’ 2” and surgery weight was 205. I’m down to 181 so losing slower than many but I know I’ll get there someday. That is probably the biggest drawback of having surgery at our age. I feel so much better than I did before surgery and just got back from a week hiking trip at a National Park. Never would have been able to do that pre surgery. good luck! You’ve got this!

I have about the same problem you have!!Went in at 270 and only lose 70 pds with the sleeve .I'm doing my work on having the revision because of the GERD...it is bad, I didn't have any of this before the surgery. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I had GERD before my VSG surgery in 2014, and it only got worse over the next six years. Nothing helped, including PPI's. Fast forward to 2020. After a bunch of diagnostic tests to verify my GERD/Gastritis/Esophagitis, I had bypass surgery October 2020. I haven't had GERD since. I'm off all acid reflux medications. I've lost 56 lbs. since surgery and feel better than I felt in my 40's (I'm 64). I've got a ton of energy, walk 5 miles five days/week and do aquatic fitness classes 5 day/week. I'm loving my new, healthier self and so glad I made the decision to get the surgery. Yes, it is a life-long decision and I've forever changed how I can eat and process food, but so worth it! Needless to say, I would recommend the revision to anyone with severe GERD.
