    May Surgeries - check in!

I’m 4 days post-op and the journal really helps. I had outpatient surgery so I was home pretty quick. I still have a lot of thoughts about food etc so I pack it all into my messy pages lol

How moly, it’s almost hard to look at! I still have so much work to do but I cannot get over the changes in under 6 months! At times I really miss a cold beer (and I am not really a drinker) or a good old dish of homemade Mac and cheese but then I look at old photos and it quickly reminds me that I don’t need them that badly! What do you miss or what gives you that added incentive to shut the fridge door?

    Artificial Sweeteners?

actually not a candidate - I had my RNY six years ago! None of them really bother me. I bloat a lot because I'm very salt sensitive and I also have "redundant colon", so I'm not sure if I'd know for sure if any bloating incident was due to artificial sweeteners or something else.

And now the rest of the story...

UPDATE Well....quit smoking! Passed my nicotine test. Pre op requirements completed. Packet being sent to insurance next week! Now the wait begins.

Oh wow. Mine wasn’t like that at all. Mine asked why I was there, why I thought I needed surgery, what I thought the surgery would do for me, and if I knew the possibility of risks involved. Then there was the 200 yes/no questionnaire I had to fill out afterwards.

I really don’t even mind when my hubby eats junk food in front of me. I have had a slice of pizza and it actually made me sick to my stomach after a bite or two. I have found that when I am craving pizza, I take a few pepperoni and pizza sauce and put it on a cauliflower crust and call it pizza! I just improvise and find a new normal “junk” food . A few bites and I am full and that itch is scratched!! The one thing I haven’t figured out how to improvise for is bubbles!!! I miss bubbles, but I have learned to love water.

Anyone here who had surgery in their 60's?

I’m 62 right now but will be 63 by the time I have my surgery 6/1/21. I was put on my first diet when I was in 2nd grade. They actually put me on diet pills that made me sooooo shaky! Mom cut the pills in half but I was still shaky so cut them into quarters and that worked better but now, today looking back at that and knowing what I now know (I’m a nurse) I just want to ask them “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????” Putting a 4th grader on dexies!!! OMG! After gaining back the 40 lbs id lost (plus some, of course) I was on Weight Watchers, Optifast, Medifast, cabbage soup diet, Atkins, and on and on. This surgery is hopefully the tool I’ve been searching for! I’m excited by the support from others on this site and I hope to be able to offer support to there as well! We got this!!!

    Chrons Disease

My chrons is back with a vengeance. I thought it was gone with this surgery. I am close to being 9 months out. I was doing so good since the beginning of the WLS. Now I am back on steroids, which is making me bloated, and gaining weight. Uggghhh This is very frustrating!!
