    After surgery diabetes

Positive post for people living with diabetes and in the pre op phase. I became a diabetic at 29 in 2018 my first blood sugar reading was 329 A1C 13.5.I was put on meds metaformin and insulin, but changed my lifestyle and was running too many lows so was taken off. In 2020 I started to get real bad yeast infections( TMI) checked my blood sugar 521 A1C 11.5 scheduled an appointment with a endocrinologist was put on humalog and trujao soloster. After getting my A1C down to 6. I was put on ozempic and trujao. Two weeks after surgery I was told discount all meds and that I didn’t have to see my endocrinologist anymore. Since surgery resting sugar is always 70 never below and after a meal in the 90’s the highest it’s been was 104. Sorry for the long post but I wanted you all to know my struggle. Btw I had surgery 3/3. I hope others who are undergoing surgery due to weight and diabetes get the same blessing!

    What was/is your greatest fear?

Now that I've gone through the surgery and recovery, I can now move on to the other things that I control - weight regain. But I feel, and I'm only a few months post-op, that I have learned enough about this process/journey that I will be able to control weight regain. The surgical team did their job. The dieticians have provided me the information to get me to where I am, now it is only up to me. The support of this community is another tool available in my toolbox that I intend to utilize.

500-650 calories. More than enough water. All supplements taken.

    Initial consultation

I made the mistake of mentioning I had swallowing issues before, so I had to do a barium swallow. All checked out; no signs of current issues. My swallowing issues is more in my upper esophagus and only specific foods (ie raw carrots) So I just avoid trigger foods.

Taking your supplements? Drinking plenty of fluids? You may be focussing more on protein intake right now, but do you know an estimate on how many calories you are consuming daily?

    Why am I hungry

I have also been ravenous since my surgery last Monday, but I can't stomach the sweetness of the protein shakes anymore so I've been having skim milk and water or crystal light. @Creekimp13 thank you for your explanation - many people have told me it was head hunger, but I didn't believe it was because I would literally eat a boiled unseasoned chicken breast right now if I could.

    What was/is your greatest fear?

You aren't alone. I'm so used to how I look now, I'm worried I won't like what I see. Especially with loose skin and possible hair loss. But, at the end of the day, my desire to add years to my life outweighs my concern in that way. It's not shallow imo. How we look changes the way a lot of the world reacts to us, which feeds our own insecurities or appreciations. I'm actually nervous about how people may treat me differently. I've heard sometimes there can be jealousy, or previous friendships fall apart because you are no longer their "fat friend". Which, I guess in hindsight, is better to know then to not know. I'm sure I'll still be the same dorky me, but lighter. Hopefully most of my friends and family will be supportive. I'm excited for you and your journey. I'm right there with you.
