    After surgery diabetes

Positive post for people living with diabetes and in the pre op phase. I became a diabetic at 29 in 2018 my first blood sugar reading was 329 A1C 13.5.I was put on meds metaformin and insulin, but changed my lifestyle and was running too many lows so was taken off. In 2020 I started to get real bad yeast infections( TMI) checked my blood sugar 521 A1C 11.5 scheduled an appointment with a endocrinologist was put on humalog and trujao soloster. After getting my A1C down to 6. I was put on ozempic and trujao. Two weeks after surgery I was told discount all meds and that I didn’t have to see my endocrinologist anymore. Since surgery resting sugar is always 70 never below and after a meal in the 90’s the highest it’s been was 104. Sorry for the long post but I wanted you all to know my struggle. Btw I had surgery 3/3. I hope others who are undergoing surgery due to weight and diabetes get the same blessing!

    Post-op question

I had significant pain but it was well-controlled with medication. Prior to surgery, I asked about my doctor's philosophy of pain management and how we would handle it if I had a lot of pain. He worked with me to ensure that I was always comfortable, even in those first few days. He ended up prescribing a stronger med for me, then stepping it back down once I was feeling better. PS: my level of pain may have been related to my specific anatomy and health history. The surgeon did say I had a lot of adhesions from previous surgeries. He also repaired a hiatal hernia at the same time I was sleeved. So there was a lot going on. He said the surgery took longer than usual, but was nothing he couldn't handle. And that also might account for why I needed more aggressive pain control.

    ONEderland! FINALLY!!!!!

I have been in a 26 day stall and my weight was driving me CRAZY as I was convinced I'd hit maintenance, but I felt slightly better after talking to my doctor on Wednesday when she told me my physical therapy was likely part of the reason my weight was fluctuating and not going under 201 but instead bouncing around from 201-204. I was incredibly frustrated and it just seemed like I'd never see under 200 pounds... BUT, this morning I weighed myself and saw 199.6 on my scale and... I cried! I'm so happy! It's super early here, not even 5am yet, so I'm trying to stop myself from waking everyone up to share my good news lol. Took me almost 13 months to get here, but I got here!

Chronic stomach pain after WLS ?

there are fewer complications with sleeve, but on the other hand, complications with either surgery aren't very common. And if you do have them, most (for both surgeries) are minor and "fixable". I personally would not let that make or break your decision because most of us sail through these surgeries just fine and don't experience complications. However, since you have GERD and choose the sleeve, know that you have about a 30% chance of that getting worse. That was the reason I went with bypass instead (and I've been very happy with that decision). Of course, you may be one of the 70% for whom it does NOT get worse. I wasn't willing to take the chance, but you might be.

Hi! I had the sleeve tumor removal and hiatal hernia repair on 4/8 today was my first day back at work. Week one was rough! I am a healthcare worker who works 12 hr shifts so I had the same fears you are talking about. I am lucky enough that my program has its own app I am sure anyone can use it Baritastic. You can log everything you need. I set reminders every 30 mins to remind me to drink (at 14 days post op I can comfortably drink 2oz in about 5 mins) it took a lot of trial and error finding the right cup to drink out of. The easiest for me was the Yeti slider lid you can sip comfortably. I also set a reminder every 4 hours to eat/drink protein. It also has vitamin reminders. I bought toddler 4oz snack cups to put my yogurt, egg salad, and refried beans (I started purée yesterday). I drink in between Patients and take 15 min break to eat then my lunch break and 15 right now where I eat my 1/3 cup of which ever. Today worked out great I am getting my food and fluids in as hoped. I also started my day with a pre made protein shake. I was so afraid I wouldn’t have energy. I have been walking about 3 miles a day for the past 5 days but I took yesterday off, and today I just walked 15 mins at lunch. Hopefully this is helpful. Good luck!

    May 2021 VSG surgeries?

Hi, I'm new here and I am scheduled for 05/10. I live in Northern Nevada and will have the procedure here. I am excited but I do agree it is more real now that it is scheduled. I was actually scheduled for 05/24/2017, but the day before, while I was at the hospital doing pre-op, the insurance calledy dr and denied the surgery. To say I was devastated is an understatement. I decided then to self pay and have been saving for four years. Now, I am ready. I have been prepping by walking 30-35 minutes for day, working on eating better, talking with my therapist on TalkSpace, and reading, reading, reading. I am 5'4" and weigh 230. I am having the occasional anxious thought but tell myself that this is what I want, will have less pain (back, hips, knees, and ankles), feel better and be healthier. I am also working with my therapist to manage these anxious moments. Jennifer Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    No Weight Loss

they're very common during weight loss. I think your body has to stop every once in awhile to "recalibrate" before going on. It happens to almost everyone.
