    Hi, everybody!

4/16 was the one year anniversary of my first appointment with my surgeon! It ended up being a zoom appointment since Covid had just started. I ended up with surgery on 11/10 and I’m 122 lbs lighter today than I was a year ago. Honestly the six month process seems so long but it flies by! Then suddenly they are scheduling your surgery and it’s like wait...this is actually happening!? I’m still losing at 5 months out, with another 52 lbs to go to goal. My best advice is 1. Start losing in the six month preop time unless it would impact insurance eligibility. Every pound lost now is a pound you don’t have to lose after surgery. 2. Start dealing with any food issues you can early on- surgery will force you to cold-turkey some of them like binging or eating nonstop sugar, but dealing with the mental side of that at the same time as surgery recovery would be tough. 3. Prepare yourself to rebuy an entire wardrobe. I was excited about the thought of it until I realized things like I had to buy all new underwear and bras and everything else, not just cute and fun stuff. And it’s expensive! 4. Your mileage may vary, but this is the best present I’ve ever given myself. It’s amazing to be able to free yourself from a lifelong problem that affects every part of your life. Where you are a year from now is going to be incredible.

I have four months of nutrition classes pre-op, and they are online due to COVID. They ask us to send in our weights prior to each class. I sent in 262.6, my true weight, for the first class a month ago. My weight this morning is 253.2. I'm thinking about saying 256.6, my weight from last night. It's sort of dumb but I'm worried I will gain weight next month because I have vacation next month with my parents and it's harder to eat well with them while traveling and also, it's just getting hard to maintain this pace. I'm worried because the surgery center said that insurance companies often want to see that patients lose a few pounds during the four months of classes. My insurance company says I don't have to lose weight over the period of the classes, but I think the person I spoke to was mistaken, even though I read the policy and it doesn't say anything about losing weight. I trust insurance companies bout as far as I can throw them. Should I lie about my weight so it doesn't look like I am gaining weight after losing so much the first month??

    Loose skin in 40’s

Yea I have heard that we really start to lose skin elasticity at 40. The nurse practitioner said to use cocoa butter before AND after surgery and that will helP some if you are concerned as well.

    Worried

I'm a week out from sleeve. It sounds a lot like my first few days. One thing I found was that warm liquids seemed to help because they did not stop in my chest. I still have some of the pain when I eat (drink) too fast but nothing like the first 3 days when my chest really hurt from the gas.

    Eye Issues?

Getting old is a b*tch. And our sight deteriorating is another one of those signs our bodies are wearing out. How depressing. I’ve worn glasses since I was about 12. I’m short sighted (very myopic) but then around 45ish, I started having trouble reading. Yep, my long vision was deteriorating. Then my glaucoma was picked up as was a thin retina. I wear contacts & now wear a script for distance in one eye & near vision in the other. I’ve had no discernible changes to my vision or glaucoma & my retina hasn’t thinned any further since I had surgery but the changes that did occur did so when I was between about 45 & 50. Amusingky, had my flu vaccine on Wednesday & my GP started to ask if I had my COVID vaccination yet but then corrected herself saying oh you’re too young & healthy to have yours yet. I replied that it’s been a damn long time since someone said I was too young for something. 😆😆😆😆

I had RNY gastric bypass in august 2020. It’s true what they say, that wls is just a tool and you’re still going to have to work hard to get to your goals! But I’m super surprised that my hunger levels don’t seem to have changed very much. I feel hungry every couple hours, when I was hoping to be one of those people who didn’t think about food very often. My weight loss has slowed because of this, so I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this and has any tips. Thanks!

    Hi, everybody!

I have like four more months and I'm getting so antsy. I just want to get to the "pounds melting off" stage! Welcome! I'm already feeling like I wish I had done this ten years ago but I know I wasn't ready. At the same time I'm still super nervous. Here's hoping these next few months are successful and quick for all of us!

    Gastric Sleeve Revision

Hi all. 9 years ago I had a gastric sleeve done by Dr Ariel Ortiz in Tijuana. I have since stretched out my sleeve and am looking into a revision. Has anyone had a revision through Dr Ortiz? Was it successful? Cost? Or if you used another Dr, would you recommend them? Was it successful? Cost?
