I ripped down my mom's 18 foot deck this past week, carried the pieces to the burn pile and dug up all the foundation anchors. I totally get overdoing it....my shoulders are ornery and I stepped in a dead possum that died under there, jumped back and fell on my butt and hurt myself. LOL But on the other hand..."overdoing it" isn't a crime. It gives us a good metabolic shake up. As long as we're not causing actual injury...some good hard physical labor is just not a bad thing. Stengthens your bones, busts a ton of calories, and makes you feel like Xena Warrior Princess. Our muscles feel ALIVE! And freaking sore! LOL Look at us, we're unstoppable! Feel the burn. It's ok to! Stay hydrated, folks:)

Thank you for saying this. I raked up the yard the other day. The next day I couldn't even move. I know that I overdo things now because of my energy level. I have to be more careful from now on. I didn't like how I felt the following day.

yes it does get a lot more challenging once you get a couple years out. That's when a lot of people start gaining. Just monitor yourself constantly - and set a drop-dead weight -- the highest you're willing to go - and if and when you reach that (which you likely will at times), it's all hands on deck until you get back comfortably into your range again. It does take constant work. I get so tired of it - but on the other hand, I never want to go back to where I was before, so I'm willing to do what I have to do.

    Surgery date scheduled

Congrats! I’ll be going for surgery next month too, on 4/8.

My goal weight is 170 and I am going to get to it pretty easily since I am only 2 lbs away. My wife was 5 ft and her max weight was 280. The doctors first goal for her is 150 in under the first year and she is 198 right now at 5 months out. She really wants to her goal to be 120 and feels she can do that with lots of work.

Newyorklady our stats are so close! The only difference is I started heavier than you, but on day of surgery I was almost your exact weight and we are the same height. I had a few thoughts of darn, I lost around 60 lbs without it, why do I need this at all? But the reality is that I don’t need help with the initial weight loss, I need help with getting to goal, and staying there. Weight loss gets harder the more you lose, as we all know. I’m currently 228 a few months after surgery (I’m a slow loser, most likely because of losing so much weight prior to surgery) and the difference between even 280 and here in terms of how I feel, how I look, and lifestyle is huge. For the first time in forever I actually can see that I’m able to lose weight and not be consumed by hunger and feelings of deprivation while I do it. I am glad I did surgery when I did, because I’m at the right time in my life. But there is a piece of me that knows 6 years ago I was maintaining in the 280s, and if I’d started the process there instead of waiting to yoyo all the way up to 340 I would have saved myself years of grief and misery. I’ve heard it here before with “I can do it on my own!” If I could have, I would have.

Well, the honeymoon may be over

I'm three lbs over it right now! (and dying - I HATE THIS!!! But I'm working on it...). Last summer I was consistently about 5 lbs under it because I was out all the time (biking or whatever) - but I'd say maybe two or three times since then (??). Holiday periods and winter in general are a bit tough. This is the highest I can remember being over it - it's usually just a pound or so.

I really wanted the bypass, but it turned out that it was medically contraindicated for me. I even got a second opinion and that doctor agreed that the bypass was not safe for me. So I had the VSG as my second choice. I started with a BMI of 47 and 118 pounds to lose. VSG worked out very well for me - I lost all my excess weight and had no major complications. The surgeries have pros and cons but both can be effective.

    Sex after sleeve surgery

My husband and I waited til week 3 or 4 when my incisions no longer hurt and my stomach didn't feel tightly sewn up inside. We obviously still went easy with it and doggy style worked out great. As silly as this sounds, beforehand, I was afraid that contracting my stomach muscles during orgasm would hurt or damage something but that wasn't the case at all. Hope you and your hubby have figured out what works for you!
