    I "snuck" having WLS

I didn't tell anyone other than my husband. I just didn't want to deal with judgment, gossip, etc, and I definitely didn't need people giving me advice. I haven't been in my office in over a year due to Covid, and look forward to surprising everyone someday! I contemplated cutting and coloring my hair to really freak them out! LOL!! I did tell my mom about my PS, which was more of a test than anything, to see if she tells anyone. She's horrible with keeping secrets! I don't care if word of my PS gets out, b/c it's pretty obvious to anyone that sees me in a bikini anyway. I'll be curious to see how long it takes her to tell my secret though! LOL!!

Sorry that the surgeon was a jerk. Hopefully the next one has a much better bedside manner!!

    I "snuck" having WLS

I like the response to the question 'is weight loss surgery cheating?' on this website https://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/weight-loss-surgery-cheating.html A couple of other articles that may help frame further conversations around 'cheating or the easy way out', I do like the concept of the 'healthy way out' https://www.smartshape.ca/wls-not-the-easy-way-out/ https://bariatrictimes.com/healthy-way-out-march-2018/

Ha! I’m so going to use this if he ever mentions it again. He prefers his dinner not burnt so I’m thinking he will keep his mouth shut from now on 😂

Tell him he’s been”cheating” when he uses the microwave instead of cooking over a fire, taking medicine for a headache instead of picking and brewing herbs, or driving a car instead of walking. 🙄 why is it cheating to take advantage of medical advancements which allow us to live healthier, happier lives? Best of luck to you, Orinskye!

    Losing hair

I freaked out when I was losing my hair. I was losing clumps of it at a time, and would literally cry in the shower. I even resorted to measuring it. I was losing approx. 3-4 grams every time I washed it (every 4 days). It happened in months 3-6. Now I am almost 7 months out, and happy to say that I am not losing anymore. I know it will take a while for it grow back, but that is ok as long as I am not losing. My nutritionist recommended that I start taking Flaxseed Oil 1,000 mg a day, and increase my protein. It worked! She also told me that none of the commercial products work.

    Scared to have surgery!

For me it helped to Look at percentages of those complications. For the most part you are more likely to die in a car accident than from this surgery. Yes you are a little more likely to have one of the scary complications but it is something you have and you go to hospital and you get through it and then it’s in the past. But so are whatever health reasons you had for having this surgery to begin with and if you look at percentages there you are at a WAY higher risk to do nothing. Hope that makes sense and helps a little. It is scary and normal to have doubts. I had them all the way to the operating room. But my excitement for my new life outweighed my fears and as long as that’s true I knew it was the right choice for me.

    What is your why?

My why is pretty complex. I’ve been overweight since I was about 9. At 11 years old I was diagnosed with hashimotos disease and hypothyroidism. I was bullied physically, verbally, and emotionally for years in school due to my weight. As I entered my 20s my cholesterol and blood pressure were creeping up to borderline needing medication. I suffer from horrible depression and anxiety and my poor self image doesn’t help with that at all. Last summer, I reached my highest weight ever of 235 despite regular exercise and attempts to eat healthier. I have just had it with my weight and decided I needed surgical intervention.

    "Head Hunger"

Have you watched any of Dr. Weiner's videos on YouTube? He's a bariatric surgeon who has a lot of great videos, but he said something about head hunger in one of his videos (can't remember which one now) that really bugged me. He basically said that "stomach growling" hunger feeling is just head hunger, and I was like, "B.S.!" I am so thankful that my surgery has almost completely eliminated my hunger (so far... I know my hunger will probably return eventually). Before surgery, I felt like my stomach was a bottomless pit, and I could eat huge quantities of food and still be hungry. I tried waiting after I ate since we're always told it takes time for satiety to set in, and nope -- I would just keep getting hungrier. There were so many times that I didn't WANT to eat any more, but I was just so hungry. Sometimes I couldn't sleep because of hunger and I had to eat more just so I could sleep. And I am quite sure that this was real, physical hunger and not just in my head. My personal theory is that this is one of the factors that makes it more difficult for some people to lose or manage their weight. I truly believe that some people are just hungrier than others, or maybe we feel hunger more strongly -- kind of like a pain threshold. People who don't have that extreme hunger can't understand why it's not as easy as it sounds to "just eat less." Now, I will also admit to having head hunger -- eating out of boredom or habit, or because something looks delicious and I want to taste it, or I'm eating something so delicious that I want to keep eating more of it, or to treat myself to something I've been looking forward to eating -- and I still experience that sometimes. I still have times when I see something I want to eat really badly even though I know that I'm not hungry. But it is a heck of a lot easier to resist when I'm not actually, physically hungry.

    I’m so sick

Yeah, I can generally only get in 2 Protein Shakes. The texture makes me gag but I suck it up. Reminds me of having someone else’s saliva in my mouth or something 😬 I can’t wait to be in the glad I did it stage
