    On the Fence

HI everyone, I have been pondering weight loss surgery for a couple years now . I am currently enrolled in a program at my local Kaiser and am about to finish the nutrition classes which are required to qualify for surgery. I am 5'6 and weigh 242 lbs. I've always been the chunky girl not too big but definitely not skinny. I guess I am just scared that I won't be able to keep up with the requirements of the surgery such as living the healthy lifestyle or committing to exercise 5 times a week. Also I am scared of the excess skin. I don't know if surgery is the way to go but at the same time I don't want to keep gaining weight. I am pre-diabetic and have a fatty liver I know this may be the beginning of more severe problems to come. Any input is welcome :)

    Charcuterie board

I love them.... so many options. I go to the meat counter and have them thinly sliced salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, I always add some cheeses ... blue cheese, brie, smoked gouda, throw in some cut strawberries, ripe cantaloupe, some olives, peppered mustard spread.... pepper jelly... and some thin crackers and some nuts..... Yummmmm

    Oh the gas pain

You just got a body learning lesson You are way to soon to be eating oily spiced kababs! But we all have been there done that and paid for it. Switch to Avocado oil seems to be less aggressive on the tummy - Even now me and Olive oil do not get along

    Oh the gas pain

fat will do that to me - or eating too fast. Or some meats just don't sit well sometimes. I ate half a reuben sandwich once and felt the same way. I eventually threw it up - and at the time I was at least three years out of surgery. BUT - those have a lot of fat, and corned beef may be one of those meats my stomach can't always deal with not sure that sounds like true dumping - that usually also involves racing heartbeat, sweating, diarrhea, chills. I think it either didn't agree with you, or you might have just eaten it too fast.

    Oh the gas pain

That’s one benefit of the surgery for many of us: if we make a wrong choice, push to fast or detour from our path we’ll pay for it.... big time. And it ain’t pleasant. Hope you feel better soon.

    Christmas Worry

You won't feel hungry, so you won't be tempted by holiday fare. That's GOOD NEWS! Stay hydrated and if you do any socializing, take a protein drink with you to have to sip on.

    Hospital stay

I'm not sure you will need to bring much. You will sleep a lot after the surgery from anesthesia. I brought books and was too tired to read them.

    Surgery this morning!

Okay, today's the day and I can't believe it! I've taken my preop anti nausea medication and had my presurgery shake and will be heading to the surgery center here in about 25 minutes. I'm nervous but not as worried as I was last night. Prayed and cried a lot last night but feeling much more at ease now. Did write myself a letter to reference going forward and one for my mom in the super rare event I don't make it home(it puts me more at eas. I don't think I'd be as ready without these forums, so thank you everyone for your input and guidance! It is my turn to hit the loser's bench! Anyone else going in this morning? Yes, a battle. One thing that has helped a lot was my Dr. suggesting not going over 2 hours without eating something. When I plan these mini snacks, most times I’m able to say “okay self, it’s just head hunger. You had something an hour ago and will again in an hour, so hold tight and get over yourself”. Doesn’t work 100%, but hey, I’ll take 60% help and trust that this muscle memory will get stronger each time I refuse to give in. Good luck!
