    Scheduled surgery today.

Last January I started this journey. I started to get the tests done and then part way through as we all know Covid stopped almost everything. Then in August I started getting the remainder of my tests complete. And today I scheduled my surgery! Still have a few appointments for pre op and to meet with the surgeon to discuss which procedure I will have. But as long as a resurgence of Covid doesn’t happen till next year I will be having my surgery on December 14th. Hopefully enough time to recover and feel better before Christmas and my one son’s birthday on the 30th. Still not sure how to feel. It all happened so fast after nothing happening for so long. I know the surgery will be best now as I am Pre-diabetic. Blood pressure is easily controlled by meds and I’m still relatively young at 43. For being 320 that’s really the limit of my health problems so I know it’s a good time. Plus I have 5 kids and a wife to provide for and be around for. Sorry for rambling. Just trying to process it all right now.

    I GOT A DATE!!!

Congrats! But, being on the pre-op diet during thanksgiving... I don't envy that. It'll be hard! I felt hungry CONSTANTLY on the pre-op diet. I did lose 16 pounds in that two weeks though so... was definitely worth it.

Have you ever been on a diet (or not) and had someone telling you constantly that you are doing it wrong. Even when you were doing it wrong? If not, I have, and it is something I rightly or wrongly resented. The crappy thing for you is from the 'helper' side, you are pretty much in a no win situation. You feel you just must 'help', but any help will be interpreted as nagging. Oh, and it get's crappier: At the stage he is in it's almost impossible not to lose weight. He is learning that he can do what he wants and lose weight. In a few months he will learn this is not true and then it will be too late to build success with weight loss as a positive feedback. Really, you have a bunch of bad choices to choose from. I have a relationship that we can sit and talk about these sort of things, but then that's it... it's up to us do to it. Frequent reminders do not go well, we work at supporting the right things, but don't force or push. It's an almost impossible balance that we often don't manage. Good luck, Tek

    Kaiser PreOp

You already have your classes done though. I still have to do those. If it’s the same time frame you should be able to get by the end of November. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I plan to take the first available appointment in anything they require. I took the first class group they offered and plan to tell them that I am ready when they are. My classes will end December 23rd. Merry Christmas to me I guess lol. And I’m hoping to be post op by mid January. did you have to do a psych eval?sleep study? kaiser is so different from other insurance requirements with their in house classes etc. however I have read that their success rate is great because of all the hoops you have to jump through

    Getting Ready for Surgery

+1 for the chapstick i also brought a bottle of biotin spray for the unbelievably sore/dry throat that i woke up with after the surgery. (everything else I brought was left untouched in my overnight bag...well except my phone)

    Struggling badly..

Did you get the sleeve or bypass? A 4 week liquid diet is BRUTAL. I totally understand what you're saying - I barely liked a lot of the liquid stuff to begin with... flavor fatigue sets in real quick. Hang in there -- eventually this will be all but a bad memory to you. It will come to an end eventually.

Going against the norm ............. I am a sicko for Mickey D's do the journey and yes once in awhile you can do a double cheeseburger. Now for me the double quarter ponder super sized is over but a happy meal once a month is still a option but wait for now to early

That is really unkind. you've lost weight and gotten healthier. I'm sorry they aren't being more supportive, you have so much to be proud of! be kind to yourself.

Congratulations for working towards a plant based diet. I am 5 months post op, and it is absolutely doable! As for protein, there are so many options. Let me count some ways....broccoli, beans, legumes, nuts, peanut butter, chia seeds, hemp hearts(omega 3), nutritional yeast, tofu, tempeh, setian, viral wheat gluten, most plant based pastas, quinoa, sprouted grains, oats, nut butters...ooh boy! That was a lot 🤣😂 There really is a lot of options out there. I have started to make my own unmeat crumbles. I didn’t learn this way overnight, but I didn’t get this fat overnight neither. My thinking on this WLS for me, is I took a drastic change to lose the weight, and I took a drastic change to keep it off. I comend anyone who is changing there lifestyle after this surgery. My surgery date was 12-12-19, and I have lost 68 lbs. I am living my best life, and I feel the best I have ever felt!
