    Thankful Thread - 10/5 - 10/11

I’m thankful that my body is teaching me to pause, listen, learn and renew. Thankful for this website and the lovely souls gathered to empower and encourage one another. Thankful for my sweet, gentle, strong, self confident, funny, tender, courageous, wise, spiritual and handsome hubby. Thirty years together and still crazy for each other.💖

I do not and I’m very happy with my results. I’m attaching two photos - one from the night before my surgery in November 2016 where you can see from the drawn lines what was being removed, and one I took just a moment ago in regular daylight. You can see from the recent photo that the surgeon went all the way down to the elbow; he also went all the way up through my armpit almost to my bra band. Hope this helps!

Not only did I have "bat wings" I had the same thing on my forearm with a pocket of fat at the elbow. When he was marking me he showed me what would be left if he only went to the elbow...a lower arm smaller 'batwing." I told him I didn't care if he went to my wrist, I didn't want that left. So, I have an extended brachioplasty. The incision goes from my bra line, through my armpit all the way down past my elbow to midway to my wrist. I'll take a scar over hanging skin any day! I still have a lot of swelling (6 weeks post op tomorrow) but I love the shape of my arms!

At a year out this must have been as series of things that conspired to play gotcha. We're careful because we know the worst case is just this happens. I' can't say I have such a bad experience of things gutting stuck, but my worst cases involved leftover chicken. Good luck in your recovery, and take care. Tek

Some people lose hair after surgery but generally this becomes a problem when they have lost quite a bit of weight around the 5 month mark. I didn't lose any hair as a result of the surgery. Those that lost hair then reported that the hair grew back in and was finer than their original hair.

although you may not lose any (not everyone does), you're still pretty early out. I didn't start losing hair until I was about five months out.

I'm 8 months out and I only had a little it was just slightly more hair shedding then normal. It, honestly, wasn't noticeable.

The surgery & dramatic change to your diet accelerates your natural hair loss cycle. It’s the stress on your body. Because shedding hair is a natural occurrence, taking vitamins, using special shampoos etc. won’t stop it happening but they likely will strengthen your new hair growth. As with most things, we all react differently. People lose different amounts of hair over varying periods of time. Some people lose so little it’s not really noticeable. Others, like me lose lots. It does stop & then you’ll notice the regrowth. It’s a small temporary price to pay for your weight loss.
