    Reality Is Setting In

I got a call late yesterday about my ride to get my covid test on Monday for my surgery....that means it is only 4 days away, I am excitedly nervous and anxious. I have had to rescheduled the surgery about 5 times after the first attempt failed a year ago and can't believe it is actually going to happen this time. I can't wait to get it done and get on with my life!!!!

chronic constipation is a very common problem among WLS patients - or at least sleeve and bypass patients. A lot of us take a capful of Miralax every day to keep on top of it. Others take stool softeners, or magnesium tablets, or things like Smooth Move Tea. Just figure out what works for you and do that. Sometimes it gets better as you get further along and can eat more fiber (fruit, veggies, whole grains), but for a lot of us, it's a chronic issue. I've been taking a capful of Miralax every day for five years.

    Is pasta really taboo?

I was told to avoid pasta, bread, and tortillas for at least the first year because they can form a lump of food in the stomach that is painful to digest. I don't know if that's true or just a scare tactic to keep us away from "bad" foods, but I think someone like you who is already having problems with liquids and purees should definitely be cautious and avoid these foods. How about eating the lasagna without the noodles? You can probably pull the noodles out. Ricotta bake is basically lasagna filling, so you can try that. I added some turkey meat sauce to it once I started eating meat, which makes it meat lasagna sans noodles (but I would suggest starting without meat). If your goal is just to get carbs, maybe try diluted apple juice; this is what I was told to do in the liquid stage. Ensure High Protein shakes also have relatively high carbs, and that's what they gave me in the hospital. You could also try unsweetened applesauce.

Im doing plenty of moves on puree so far but if i wasnt i would do miralax i used it in the past and you can get by usually with a spoonful in your flavored water a day. I would make sure bariatric nurse knows they may have something else for you

yours may get better in a couple of days just from being off the codeine - so you may be fine. however, if it keeps up (and it does with a lot of us), Colace works, too (that's a stool softener). Either Miralax or Colace should do the trick...

I use the bariatric advantage chewy bites. You can get them from the store on this site. They taste like softer starbursts to me.
