Just also like to mention how helpful I'm finding the forum on this site. It's be a bit daunting to see the topics where people are having problems after surgery, but it's much better to go into it knowing what to expect and with so many helpful comments as to how to overcome/deal with the problems. 😄

    Constantly feeling overly full

Only being 3 weeks out I would imagine you are weak. It takes a good 4 to 6 weeks and sometimes longer to get your energy back. You have gone through a major surgery. I felt like it was Thanksgiving with the sleeve too even after being 2 1/2 years with it although it did relax the 2nd year it was still restrictive. You may be only able to take a couple of small bites of food or only be able to drink a small amount of a protein shake and that is normal right now. It would take me a whole day to drink a shake in the beginning and I could not have more then 5 bites of food and I was stuffed for hours. From what you are saying about your son though it wouldnt hurt to go get checked out. I hope all is well with the both of you and its nothing too serious. Good luck on your journey !!

    36 hours before Gastric Bypass

Good luck on Tuesday! I am scheduled for a sleeve also Tuesday morning! Yes the liquid diet is tough... and I couldn’t agree more about the Premier Protien shakes, I thought it was just me! I also agree about the emotional eating and grazing... I have learned more about that too this week. Hope your surgery goes great! Keep in touch.

Hi! A very valid question. Statistically, the evidence shows that WLS is the most effective way to lose a significant amount of weight and to reach a more healthy BMI. Yes, you have to make lifestyle changes. It is not a quick fix. What its been for me is a very effective tool that is helping me to have a new relationship with food. I'll have to work at this for the rest of my life. This tool (I had the sleeve) helps me in a way that a the diets I've done in the past did not - i think partly bc for me, I feel like this is my last, best chance to be healthy. You will likely still be hungry or crave things - some people don't, but I for sure do. But this tool helps me with that. My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. I've lost 140 lbs since December and am healthier than I've been in years. Good luck on your decision! Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    MONEY QUESTION

Wls is excluded on our insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket. It was 21,800, and includes the surgery, office visits for a year, labs, hospital stay, etc. The only thing not included is if a radiologist reads an xray or something like that. My surgeon is actually seeing me more often than his usual patients since it's all included. I considered surgery for years but it's never been covered by any insurance I've had. I was also much smaller and still healthy, so it wasn't urgent. In January I found out I have NASH with scarring, and in May was diagnosed with high BP. I'm 49 and I wasn't diabetic but my mom had it 47 and she's much smaller than me so it was a matter of time. It was a huge amount of money to spend, but I can't spend it anyway if I'm dead, so I decided to do it. It has been worth every penny. I'm off BP meds and my liver enzymes were down after surgery so hopefully that issue will continue to resolve. I don't regret it all. I feel so much better already! Alcohol?? 🤔

I was given the following reasons to refrain from alcohol: (1) empty calories (2) can contribute to worsening GERD (3) metabolization of the alcohol may have undesired effects with your new digestive system (4) risk of transfer addiction. I was not told never to have it again, but to use caution before proceeding. I rarely had alcohol during weight loss phase, I would guess probably less than 10 times the entire time, and these times wouldn't even be an entire regular "serving". It was always dry red wine or gin/vodka with soda (less calories and less carbs). I once had a couple sips of a flavoured soju like 2 months post op and ended up on the bathroom floor for over an hour. Not pretty. I can get tipsy/drunk reeeaaalllly quickly (and on much, much, much less than pre-op). But I also sober up astonishingly quickly as well. 1 drink and I'm def affected. 2 drinks and I'm drunk. But about an hour later I'm totally back to normal again. I'm almost 2 years post op now and I drink fairly regularly (particularly since COVID started!), though I still stick to red wines and spirits with no sugary mixers for the most part (with the exception of Kahlua, an important ingredient in espresso martinis) P.S. I am NOT advocating drinking to all, especially if your team advises against it. Everyone is different and should aim to know their limitations and stay within them. Some may have more trouble with this, which is probably why lots say to just stay away. It can become a slippery slope.... Edited to add: I just realized the title of this thread was for bypass. Oopsies, I'm a sleeve, and I think it may be a bit different, between the two: alcohol will bypass a portion (or all?) of the small intestine in by-passers and go directly to the the large intestine, which results in different alcohol metabolization rates...

Actually, no they do not taste a lot like egg. The is mostly used for firmness and texture. What you do taste is an banana cooked like a pancake.. The egg makes it easy to pour in the pan like batter. I was skeptical, thought it was odd. But, it is like a sweet breakfast with protein too. I never put anything on it. I was fine with it just plain.
