First time feeling some buyers remorse
Heather13 reacted to MelissaTEXAS for a post in a topic
I’m new here, still doing post-op liquids 😭 but my mom has had this surgery 20yrs ago and she can pretty much eat anything she wants to, actually for 15+ years she has been able to eat everything. Too much of anything is still bad for her, but she knows her limits. I just write to give you hope. You will one day be able to eat a little bit of anything on the planet ❤️ -

Can I contact my Insurance to see if I was approved?

I was able to look online with the Insurance Company and found my approval (different company though) -
1 pointThank you for your response it is so helpful. It's funny, because I'm having constipation too! At my last appointment my surgeon asked if I was having diarrhea and I said no, constipation and he looked at me kinda funny. Lol I do tend to second guess everything, and worry that I'm doing something wrong. I am losing so I know I need to stop worrying so much. It helps a lot to hear other's experiences. I will talk to my surgeon about it when I see him, but I guess it is just the way my body reacts. I always I shouldn't complain. I'm feeling so much better than I was before surgery! I've got a long way to go but the weight loss has already made a big difference Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

1 pointI'm 7 months out from having the Loop DS. I only recently in the last two or three months or so started feeling actual hunger again. In the earlier months I knew I was hungry when my stomach started making noise. Now if I ignore that symptom I start to feel nauseous and then the hunger pangs kick in. My surgeon told me that everyone's experience is different, because our bodies work different. For example (this is TMI, sorry) I was the first Loop DS patient my surgeons office has had that had constipation issues. No joke. But as to your worry about the hunger... well, your body is working extra hard to shed those pounds and adjust to a new way of life. My metabolism has gone through the ringer and I go through spurts where I feel like I'm eating wayyyy too much. Funny enough that when I feel like I'm starving is when I end up losing more weight that week, which I still find strange. And yes, it's still easy to satisfy my hunger be it a fruit cup or string cheese or protein bar to snack on between meals. I'm still losing weight, even if it's slowed down now so obviously I'm doing something right. If the hunger really bugs you because you feel like it's too soon then I suggest bringing it up with your surgeon and seeing what they have to say about it. Just try not to stress. I know I had instances where I questioned every little thing I did (especially during stalls) but every time I phoned the surgeons office they told me it was normal (barring the constipation, which had even them confused lol) Anyway, congrats on your recent surgery and if you have any questions at all feel free to ask!

1 pointjust wanted to say that I've been working with the pre-op classes at my clinic for the last four years, and the two biggest fears they seem to have is hair loss and excess skin. I was the same way when I was pre-op and early post-op, but I think most of us "vets" on here would tell you that in hindsight, those are such minor things in the grand scheme that many of us wonder why we wasted even one brain cell worrying about them. I would take the temporary hair loss and loose skin any day over weighing 373 lbs again. ANY DAY!! people who've been around for awhile are probably sick of me posting this picture, but I'm going to post it anyway. I HAVE had plastic surgery, but this was taken before I had it. See any loose skin? No - you don't - because for most of us, it's very easy to hide in clothes. Of course, *I* knew it was there, but I highly doubt anyone else did. I just tucked it into my jeans or leggings and wore somewhat loose, long-ish tops with 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves. Ta da! Gone! (oh - and by the way - I hardly lost any hair at all. Many people do, but for most, they're the only ones who notice it. And it grows back)

Girl!!! You are next to all my family. I'm from Texas. My sister is in College Station I think. I have been back in a long time. All my other family is all over Houston and Lake Charles, etc. I have so many friends there, too. Hope your surgery goes better this time. I appreciate you sharing your fears. I love this place. I thank God for you all. I feel better about my surgery. My surgeon is amazing. He has been wonderful. Yes, he is Board Certified. He has great ratings that match up completely with my experience with him. I was just scared about the hospital. That has hopefully been addressed. I spoke to a very pleasant girl today and she assured me that I'm in good hands. And I really feel that way now. And I brought my concerns up to the doctor. It will all be fine. I loathe complaining. You always feel like they will stick you extra hard with the needles or give you a Clorox IV Bahaa. Good luck with your surgery!! -

Hang in there. I am sorry to hear of your pain. -
1 pointI think the general feeling is to limit the carbs until you get closer to maintenance. Just getting the protein and fluids in is a major accomplishment for a long time, and then adding veggies and some fruit is more than enough. Adding carbs and fatty foods like nuts and nut butters can slow down your weight loss. I reached goal in 7 months, but did not even think of adding a grain based carb, nuts, or nut butters until then. Then I added them very gradually, to ensure I wouldn't start regaining. I am 18 months out now, and am eating a whole foods plant based (WFPB) diet now. I get all my protein in, but it comes from legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and non dairy milk/yogurt. I eat a lot of carbs now - but they are whole grains, legumes, fruits and veggies - nothing processed. I eat nuts and seeds every day. I also eat 8-10 servings of veggies/fruit every day, so I am NEVER hungry with that much volume. This all to say that there are a lot of different ways to eat after surgery, but initially, until you reach goal, you need to stick to your protein, water, legumes, veggies. The other stuff can come later. The first 6 months are where you are going to lose a lot of weight. The first year is the golden year, and you want to maximize the opportunity to lose as much as you can during that time. After 12-18 months (sometimes sooner, sometimes later), the weight loss will slow down, your body will start absorbing nutrients more easily, you will lose the tight restriction, and all your new lifestyle modifications will be the real tools you will use to maintain your new weight. The surgery gets the weight off, but you need to do the rest. Don't waste those first months. Hold off on maintenance foods like grain based carbs, starchy vegetables, and nuts/nut butters until you are ready to stop losing and start maintaining. Just my 2 cents worth. I'm sure others will have different ideas.

Surgery time frame
Annette P reacted to Topaz_Black for a post in a topic
It depends on your insurance and Bariatrics centers guidelines. My policy did not require the supervised diet for BMI’s over 40. I started my process on June 23 and surgery is tomorrow, so a little over two months. There are plus’ and minus’ for an accelerated process though. My process included; an interest seminar, consultation with surgeon, psych evaluation, abdominal ultrasound, clearance by my primary care physician, EGD, EKG, blood work, dietician consult, pre-op surgery class, and final pre-op visit with surgeon. Good luck! -

You will be fine! I’m not trying to worry you because with Covid everyone is backed up. But there is huge difference so thought I’d share my experience. I know how you are feeling! I cancelled Surgery in Nov after doing 2 week fluids bc of blogs with horrific complications scared me to death. plus I never heard of loose skin that bad like the extreme ones on U-tube. Also petrified of Anesthesia bc bad issue before. Cancelled surgery in Jan because Dad died. I have met with my surgeon 4 times and he is the nicest caring surgeon. He doesn’t rush me & answers questions truthfully. He also does reflux surgery & has vitamins on amazon plus U-tube videos. He has plastic surgeon he works with & went over info to help insurance cover skin removal as it’s unhygienic & rashes hurt. But said exercise helps so much. His Nurse is awesome and when I call her for questions, she never tries to hurry me. The hospital pre op & Covid test ran smooth. It only took a month to be okayed so I pay nothing. The office is efficient. Surgery is Sep 8th. Three times a charm, I wish I had done it in November. I did the liquid diet twice now & gained it back. If you have a bad feeling make sure surgeon is a registered Bariatric Surgeon. Our health & lives are at risk. I have 4 bad issues will go away. So please think about that if you get scared at the last minute. We can all do this. Like you, I am pretty much alone except my husband. I’m really thankful for everyone here. If anyone is in the Houston/The Woodlands area, He has a 5 star rating several places so I’ll share info. Prayers for everyone having soon & recovering!
