    Second Guessing This!

You will be fine! I’m not trying to worry you because with Covid everyone is backed up. But there is huge difference so thought I’d share my experience. I know how you are feeling! I cancelled Surgery in Nov after doing 2 week fluids bc of blogs with horrific complications scared me to death. plus I never heard of loose skin that bad like the extreme ones on U-tube. Also petrified of Anesthesia bc bad issue before. Cancelled surgery in Jan because Dad died. I have met with my surgeon 4 times and he is the nicest caring surgeon. He doesn’t rush me & answers questions truthfully. He also does reflux surgery & has vitamins on amazon plus U-tube videos. He has plastic surgeon he works with & went over info to help insurance cover skin removal as it’s unhygienic & rashes hurt. But said exercise helps so much. His Nurse is awesome and when I call her for questions, she never tries to hurry me. The hospital pre op & Covid test ran smooth. It only took a month to be okayed so I pay nothing. The office is efficient. Surgery is Sep 8th. Three times a charm, I wish I had done it in November. I did the liquid diet twice now & gained it back. If you have a bad feeling make sure surgeon is a registered Bariatric Surgeon. Our health & lives are at risk. I have 4 bad issues will go away. So please think about that if you get scared at the last minute. We can all do this. Like you, I am pretty much alone except my husband. I’m really thankful for everyone here. If anyone is in the Houston/The Woodlands area, He has a 5 star rating several places so I’ll share info. Prayers for everyone having soon & recovering!

    Surgery time frame

It depends on your insurance and Bariatrics centers guidelines. My policy did not require the supervised diet for BMI’s over 40. I started my process on June 23 and surgery is tomorrow, so a little over two months. There are plus’ and minus’ for an accelerated process though. My process included; an interest seminar, consultation with surgeon, psych evaluation, abdominal ultrasound, clearance by my primary care physician, EGD, EKG, blood work, dietician consult, pre-op surgery class, and final pre-op visit with surgeon. Good luck!

    Surgery Tomorrow!

Good luck! Wishing you the best. You’ve already proven that you are ready for what lies ahead. By the way, we’re surgery twins. My surgery is at 10am tomorrow.

    First appointment down

So. I had my first appointment with the surgeon this past week. We have agreed on a sleeve gastrectomy. He said the surgery would happen in about 1 month since I'm self-pay. I have an appointment with the dietician next week and with the psychologist the week after. I'm nervous and excited. It's all I can think about. It's all I want to talk about but I'm trying not to drive my husband crazy. I thought this might be the place to talk. Anyone else out there in the same boat that wants to gab it up. I keep perusing these forums and reading all of the posts. I want to engage. Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Recipes for "soft foods" phase?

I just posted these to another thread, but here are some recipes I used for pureed (that are so good I'd eat em during soft too!) Blend 1c low-fat ricotta, 1-2 T caramelized onions, and some finely chopped rosemary using a hand blender for a great whipped ricotta dip. Pressure cooked some cannelini Beans and blended with a touch of olive oil, lemon juice and zest for a white bean dip. Scrape vanilla bean seeds & add pod to low-fat milk and steep over low heat. Remove pod, combine with sugar-free cheesecake pudding and a little bit of almond extract. Tasted like an amaretto cheesecake! For soft foods most of my favorites were fish, but there were a couple of tasty meat recipes as well. Combine 1T low-cal cream cheese with either some minced shallot/capers or some everything bagel seasoning and serve with some smoked salmon. Poached fish in a milk broth flavored with leek, shallot, saffron. MD-style crabcakes (toss meat in a metal bowl first and listen for any clinking to pick out shells) with very little filler. These were especially great since you can portion into 2-oz mini crabcakes and freeze, then pull them out to broil as needed. https://leitesculinaria.com/44197/recipes-beef-chili.html This recipe was delicious. It's a ground beef chili that has a very soft consistency designed for topping hot dogs or hamburgers. Has some kick but loaded with flavor. Of course, chicken salad and tuna salad. Chopped up a whole rotisserie chicken and made a couple different types of salads- pesto and curry chicken salad. Hope you find some inspiration from these ideas!!

I won't get into the political side of weight loss or HAES, but I did want to say that he was one person, you seem to be judging all men on the attitude of one. Not all men want a skinny person, not all women want a lean and super fit person. I would think that there are many who just want a real person with a wonderful attitude in all things regardless of how that person looks or weighs. It isn't hard to see who people are, those who choose others based solely on how they look....its in their words, their actions, how they treat others, and not making light of this but I can't tell you how many people I have unfriended on facebook based on their posts/memes but its quite a few...it is to demonstrate that people can't help but show who they are. Sociopaths and narcissists may be an exception to that.

The only two things I've seen similar to what you are asking for (but only compares you against your possible progress) were in MyFitnessPal and Happy Scale. They estimate where you may be (weight wise) in the next week or month based on your own metrics Good Luck ♥️

I'm not sure this kind of thing would be too helpful, because people lose at all different rates for all different reasons - age, gender, metabolic rate, starting BMI, activity level, whether or not they lost weight prior to surgery, how closely they stick to their plan, etc. I was a slow loser from day 1, which some very insensitive medical resident pointed out to me - showing me a chart of where "most" patients are at point X, and pointing out how far behind the curve I was. It really bothered me because I stuck to my program about 99% of the time that whole first year. What else was I supposed to do? Change the fact I was female and post-menopausal and had a pokey metabolism rate? Luckily, I resolved to prove the jerk wrong and ended up losing 100% of my excess weight, blowing pretty much all the other patients in my co-hort out of the water. But I could have responded the other way - thinking I was a failure, and thinking that he'd just confirmed it. as long as follow your program and your weight trends downward (allowing for the occasional stall along the way), you're good.

Burping and pain in your upper abdomen/epigastric region (from gas or???), can be symptoms of GERD. Probably a good idea to contact your PCP or surgeon’s office if symptoms persist. Do you take anything for GERD now?

Congratulations, self payer here too! I had my surgery about two weeks ago, time flies right by. Make sure to take plenty of before pictures, weigh yourself, and try to measure everything. I'm down about 22 pounds and I can actually see the results at this point. [emoji4] I'm so excited for you! Sent from my Moto Z (2) using BariatricPal mobile app
