    Mental Health and Surgery

I take meds and vitamins with the sleeve and I never had problems swallowing them. I take Claritin D 24 and Women's One a Day vitamins, which are both pretty big without issue. I could take one of my medications that's medium large the day after surgery.

    Gain weight

a 10-20 lb gain during year three is VERY common. I'm five years out and still there - and I have to fight like heck just to keep it there - 20 lbs heavier than my lowest weight! I've pretty much given up on losing those 20 lbs because it would take cutting back a lot on my calories, which I'm apparently not willing to do. But...that's what it takes.

Welcome, Chelle. I will first say that I did feel pretty good before surgery, although my labwork suggested otherwise. I had been obese for so long that I guess I didn't know better. Once I lost all the weight, I realized how "good" really feels! In answer to your questions: Taking meds: I did have to crush them for a couple of months and it is disgusting. Unfortunately, that's part of the process. I found that the quickest and easiest way was to simply put the powder on my tongue and wash it down with water. (I tried them in liquid, in yogurt, etc.--even worse.). After trying various multivitamins, I found that "soft chews" worked best for me. Even the so-called "chewables" in hard form made me gag. Water: It is indeed very difficult to get the full amount of water at the beginning, but it gets better over time. Bear in mind that protein shakes can count as part of the liquid requirement. Just do the best you can. I had a bottle of water with me all day long and took sips as often as I could. Liquid and puree stages: Yep, they are boring. I found, however, that I had no appetite whatsoever and had to force myself to get enough protein every day, so I didn't really care what things tasted like. If you mean "bland" as in not spicy, that is probably best in the beginning. I ate lots of non-fat Greek yogurt at the beginning, and I got really sick of protein shakes. Again, it's all part of the process and you will get through it. I've never heard of anyone having to "start over" after eating the wrong things during the puree stage. Some people talk about a "pouch re-set" when they stop losing weight, but that's more psychological than an actual physical issue. Good luck! I promise that you will look back in six months and wonder why you hadn't done this sooner!

I've always wanted to take a surfing lesson in Hawaii. I've now been twice, 10 years ago when I was 6 months pregnant (and too fat anyway), and in 2018 at my high weight at 393. I plan to go again someday and I WILL take my surfing lesson. I'll most likely fail miserably at it, but it's still something I want to try! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Brand new sleeve

I'm guessing you may have had a morphine pump in the hospital (or some other narcotic), so that's probably why it felt worse when you got home. It's most likely gas pain - it should work its way out in a few days. The getting in and out of bed thing is common. To be honest, I didn't have any pain at all other than when I was getting in and out of bed. It felt like I'd done 1000 crunches - but that'll go away soon, too.

    Don't it irks you when...

Don't it irks you when a former big person become a shamer? I have a coworker and she did not have a WLS but she had liposuction and a tummy tuck. And she always makes comments about bigger people (she's still sorta big just more shapely now). I went with her to get something to eat and she made a comment about every big person in line. Things like: "she know she needs a salad, I know that plate gotta weigh a ton" And when I called her out, she stated she was just teasing. I've worked with her for a while and I never heard her talk about people like that until she had her surgery. Now, she hasn't said anything about me to my face because she knows I will cuss her out. It just irks me. I decided not to go to lunch with her anymore because her energy is toxic. She finds joy in stepping on people which is kinda weird to me.

OMG OMG, now YOU get out of MY brain! I loooove to sing (just try to get the mic out of my hands at karaoke, i DARE you). Like most however, my voice is not something one would pay money to hear...but what I lack in talent, I make up for in enthusiasm. OK. So now we gotta go source some contractors to build a house on the beach with a recording studio where we can start a band and take turns being the lead singer and back up dancer! The only thing I need to decide is if I wanna be an awesome pianist or an awesome guitar player (electric AND acoustic, mind you.)...oh wait, I could take up the drums too! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
