    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Me too! At the start of my liquid diet it felt like it would drag, I can't believe in 3 days the surgery will be over work! Starting to get nervous, but mostly excited 😁

3 week post op intake issue

Tuna at 3 weeks would have been hard for me. A few things that worked well at that stage were greek yogurt (my nutritionist recommended the OIkos Triple Zero - I'd eat around 1/2 a container for a meal at 3 weeks). Cottage cheese was also good at that time, around 2 oz. I also did beans which I pureed REALLY well and added some salsa too (also pureed) to get to a more liquid texture.

    Feeling Guilty(as I should)

Excuse me I was giving honest advice.. it is beneficial to get help if needed.. there's nothing wrong with asking for help.... Most surgeons ask for psychological help to deal with the changes in your life that come with surgery.. nobody is perfect.. And I'm allowed to give advice because I've been through it and have been successful so I'm offering encouragement and inspiration to show it is possible...

    June Sleevers Post Op

Took me about two or three weeks possibly a little longer before I could sleep on my side. To make myself more comfortable haid a v shaped pillow which leant against two other pillows that were flat, it helped me sleep on a bit sitting up. With the standing upright, I remember being a bit ginger about standing tall, but possibly that was about the same time...I was able to stand tall as soon as I was able to get out of bed without needing to roll out of bed.

The amount, and speed, of weight loss in the first six months after bariatric surgery is mainly determined by genes, so one person's results are in no way predictive of anyone else's. There are gender-specific differences in weight loss that you'll also likely benefit from. Genetic expression, however, is dependent upon environment, so we can all help our DNA along after surgery -- and for the rest of our lives -- by following key evidence-based bariatric rules such as no liquids 30 mins before or after meals, staying hydrated, practicing portion control, mindful eating, protein first veggies second, chewing food extremely well before swallowing, not slipping back into old eating behaviours and food habits, reading labels if you eat packaged foodstuffs, getting in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity per week, getting enough sleep, and taking all of the required vitamin and mineral supplements. Wishing you well with your surgery!

    Onederland!!!

I started with a gastric sleeve surgery done in July 2019 weighing just shy of 350lbs. I had a lot of issues and tough recovery and it required a revision to a gastric bypass at the end of February 2020. I do not own a scale in my home as I would obsess over the number and with the whole Covid situation I was not going to in person dr appointments but today finally I was able to go and I weighed in at 187lbs!!!! That number seems crazy to me. I was over 200 at the age of 12 and I’m now 46. I want to laugh and cry at the same time. This last year was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever been through and I am not back to being 100% healthy yet but I am so excited to finally be under the 200lb mark.

    PREGNANT ! ! ?

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. Secondly, congratulations on your weightloss! :) Bravo to you and I am so happy you are now able to concieve. Of course there are complications associated with pregnancy following weightloss surgery. And there are complications associated with obesity. They can be serious and your concerns for your child's nutrition is valid. However, with proper monitoring and a specialized nutritionist, there is NO reason you cannot have a happy, healthy pregnancy. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Be patient and listen to your doctors. Be upfront about your medical history and current diet. ASK QUESTIONS. Be an advocate for your pregnancy and your baby's health. Don't let anyone shame you for your wonderful news. Of course it's "ideal" to wait a year to get pregnant because your numbers stabilize and so does your health. But 4 months post-op is not the end of the world, even if people tell you it is. (Hugs) My dear friend fell pregnant with her first (at 35 years old!) Just 7 months following her surgery and has a healthy, beautiful baby girl now. I wish you the best of luck. Smile! You're having a baby!
