I had to do a six month monitored weight loss for my insurance and even though I actually didn't have to diet I chose to start early to prepare myself. The first month I cut my portion sizes and stopped eating seconds. The second month I cut out soda. Third month I cut out rice. Fourth I cut out pasta. Fifth I cut out bread, potatoes, bean, etc. And sixth, seventh, and eighth month I just maintained that diet (they were scheduled out so it took them two extra months to schedule my surgery). I lost 64 pounds before my surgery. It's been almost five months since my surgery and I've lost an additional 70 pounds in that time. Bad habits are hard to break so trying to break those habits early on will only help you. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

I just rejoined the page yesterday. I read through many forums which are great! I wanted to add one to see if it can inspire me to be more successful in my preop and postop weight loss. As we all know the journey is hard just to decide to go through the process .for the surgery in the first place. What have you thought or started doing to help your life change to lose weight and keep it off? They say it takes 21 days to rewire the mind to break a habit. Today I am started with not eating after 8pm.

    Doing your own adjustment

Unless you yourself are a bariatric surgeon it seems unnecessarily risky to do this friend.

This might be a little weird but crushed iced helped me. It didn't fill me up but it curved by hunger.

lots of us had to do that. You'll just have to white knuckle it. It gets a lot better by about day 4 because your body goes into ketosis at that point. The headache is from carb withdrawal - that should go away as well. Just hang in there - the liquid diet is the hardest part of this. I found broth, Jello, and sugar free popsicles the most helpful, even though nothing really helps that much. Jello and popsicles were the only things that resembled real food, so I ate them with abandon. And broth has salt in it, so it makes you retain water, making you feel a little fuller. Just hang on....this'll all be over before you know it!!

Why is this so hard for me

Lyrica is renowned for increasing your appetite & weight gain. It’s a great medication for nerve pain but ... Your appetite is probably coming back, with the meds contributing, & you may be sub-consciously eating more. It’s easy to do. Check your serving size and if you aren’t counting calories, you may need to give it a go for a couple of weeks. All the best.

Hello! I am new here and I just had my gastric bypass on the 3rd. I'm a 34 year old married mom I am still having some pain and a little nausea. I am supposed to do full liquids for 7 days and blended for 3 to 4 weeks. Making sure to sip, sip, sip is no joke. One of the biggest things I am most surprised about is the noises that come from my stomach area. Lots of gurgling. My hardest obstacle is my son who is 3 wanting to crawl all over me! For those of you who have surgery soon... you don't know me but I will be cheering for you. Best wishes! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Meal Prep for the week

I do a lot of meal prep! I go shopping usually on Sundays (sometimes a separate trip to the farmers market). I get meat and veggies. I cut everything up in one day. I put it in zip-lock baggies and use them to marinade or spice the meat at the same time. Sometimes I do skewers, which are fun. I will mix up the veggies this way. I like to do a brussel sprout, chicken, and cherry tomato skewer. I make my own bariatric friendly marinades as well. I just play around with different options. I will cook more meat on Sundays and Wednesdays for lunches. I make salads as well, with added protein source. I usually use chicken or soy meat. The most important thing, I always go to the store with a list. I never allow myself to browse. In fact, I really don't go to the grocery store ever anymore. I utilize grocery pick up and order online. It keeps me from getting things I don't need.
