Initially I was head set on the Sleeve. When my surgeon asked if I ever have GERD and I replied “yes, once in awhile”, he drew a picture of what happens when GERD takes place with Sleeve (increased pressure in a much smaller pouch, that raises serious discomfort, and risk of potentially serious esophageal damage.) He went on to say if your tests indicate serious reflux issues I WON’T perform Sleeve on you. If they show minor issues, I’ll do Sleeve if you still choose to, but caution you it may result in a revision up the road if GERD persists. I would much rather you go through WLS surgery once and not have to do it twice. He encouraged me to leave him, start the battery of testing and do more research. When I learned that RNY is still considered the Gold Standard of WLS, with the longest history of success, risks very low, slight potential for greater weight loss due to malabsorptive feature, my mind was well on its way to RNY. Three months out and No regrets, not at all. Challenges with both, but to be expected. Many Sleevers are very happy and have done amazing, too! It’s your personal makeup that, along with recommendations from your Dr. that will guide you. Mine is only one story. Good luck! I loved the excitement😃 and anticipation at the stage you’re in—-Enjoy the Journey!💖

At A Loss (Not Weight Loss)

Do you track your calories? That is what helps me the most, just to "stay in the game" and make sure I'm not eating too much. My back is messed up. When I started my exercise was physical therapy. Now I do Pilates. It doesn't burn many calories, but it does help you build long, lean muscle.

All of the above was true for me. I was vigilant about carbs for about the first 7-8 months until I reached goal weight, and I also tried to watch fat as well. (And I had no sugar at all.) I got to goal weight easily, then kept losing and became rather gaunt. I started adding carbs like bread, rice, etc. and got back "up" to my goal weight--plus about eight pounds. I cut down on the carbs again and went back to goal weight fairly quickly, which is where I've stayed for the the past eight months or so. I still limit carbs, fat and I consume zero sugar. It's not for everyone, but it works for me.

It's also 90% mental like you have to be mentally in the game and mind frame to get the best results!!

I was told no carbs except for those that occurred naturally in the food like in fruit & vegetables but could eat rolled oats. Also had to find the lowest carb options in shakes etc. And a most definite no to rice, pasta & bread. Once I got to maintenance I was allowed to add a small amount of multigrains to my diet. For me this is multigrain crackers as I can use them to carry other foods like hummus, avocado, eggs, etc. This small addition helped a lot with that weight loss haggard look & also with keeping me regular - lol.

Hello! I am new here and I just had my gastric bypass on the 3rd. I'm a 34 year old married mom I am still having some pain and a little nausea. I am supposed to do full liquids for 7 days and blended for 3 to 4 weeks. Making sure to sip, sip, sip is no joke. One of the biggest things I am most surprised about is the noises that come from my stomach area. Lots of gurgling. My hardest obstacle is my son who is 3 wanting to crawl all over me! For those of you who have surgery soon... you don't know me but I will be cheering for you. Best wishes! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help! Thighs are dying!

5 days a week of traing is hardly excessive. Nor is 7 days, if you are doing it right. When you go to the gym, you need to group your muscles together that you are doing to use. Like leg day, back/biceps, chest, shoulders and triceps are three different days, and you can have 2 days between each day or combine two of them together for three days. They need to be grouped because so many muscles rely on other muscles. A shoulder press is pushing the same muscles that the back can use. You need a rest day for the entire muscle group, of at least than one day. I go to the gym 6 days a week, two day rest between each group. On the rest days, your muscle tissue that was broken down, is being rebuilt. Don't keep breaking it down of you will suffer an injury. That aside, your trainer was a dumbass.. obese people should not start with body weight exercises in my opinion. There are two many machines that can be used with light weights, or even light dumbbells. There are also cable machines that can be use in place of machines and dumbells. Cable machines are my favorite because you can use them to better approximate real life movements for specifically c activities like sports. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using BariatricPal mobile app
