Hello Everyone, I just started the process to have gastric sleeve surgery. Although I'm getting great info from the nutritionist, I'd love to hear your experiences and what you wish you knew before you had surgery. I'm nervous but excited! My surgery is still about 5 or 6 months away so I'm hoping to prepare myself as best I can before then. What are the biggest changes you've made and how did that impact your life? All advice and stories are welcomed!!

    Struggling some 7mo out why?!

I would drop the protein shakes and replace with food that will make you feel full and stay full longer. I stopped using protein shakes on a daily basis by 4-5 months I believe and even then I only had one a day. It appears you are a vegetarian, I’m not but others here are or have been. @GreenTealael @summerset @FluffyChix might be able to help you with ideas to increase protein without relying on shakes. This link will take you to a thread where we share what we eat. Food thread As far a hunger goes I have hungry/ravenous days out of the blue. I just make sure I have good choices available so I don’t grab chips or cookie. The bags of small apples they sell now are a perfect size for me. I also keep a big box of black seedless grapes in the fridge. Congratulations on your weight loss so far, that is amazing! 6 pounds in one month 7 months post surgery isn’t unusual as far as I know. Your weight loss will slow down as you get closer to your goal weight. May I ask how close you are?

help during Covid 19 stay home

We had surgery very close to each other! I’m finding projects to keep myself busy. Do you have a Fitbit or use any kind of device like that? I also track everything I eat in my fitness pal. I find both very useful and it helps keep me moving and accountable . I’ve gained 1-2 pounds this month so I’m keeping a close eye on that. I keep around 1300 calories a day, but I’ve let that tick up a bit and I found out I gain VERY easily, so I have to stay vigilant. Frozen bananas blended with almond milk is a great snack/dessert. I also always have a big box of seedless grapes in my fridge for when I get in a fidgety eating mood.

    I CAN'T FREAKING DECIDE!

Wow, thank you so, so much for replies! They were super helpful and I have actually made up my mind finally, woo hoo! I have decided to go with the bypass due to my bmi and due to issues with my metabolism being slow from my hypothyroidism, but mostly because I feel I can definitely meet my goal weight and stay at that weight successfully with this surgery. I am new on here, so I really appreciate the thoughts and insights!

Hi! My sister had her sleeve in August 2018 & found out she was pregnant October 2018. Since she’s had the baby she’s not gained anything. In fact, she’s down to her goal weight now. During her pregnancy she had her cravings, but the sleeve still helped her not overeat. When she was pregnant she was all baby, he’s about to be 7 months now & is super healthy. Hope this helps!

    Hypothyroidism and Gastric Bypass

Has anyone been diagnosed hypothyroidism and had a gastric bypass? I'm 4wks post op and been so tired and lost a lot less weight than expected. Typical hypothyroidism symptoms. I can't get my blood test done for a while due to COVID-19. Just wondered if one of the internal changes after surgery were thyroid hormone production? Thanks
