    When does energy return?

It took me 8-10 weeks to even get some of my energy back I couldn’t keep anything on my stomach and was extremely weak. I couldn’t even walk to the end of my driveway and had to get 3 banana bags at the hospital. Now I have much more energy than I have ever had

weight loss DOES slow down after the first couple of months, so that's normal. a lot of people seem to eat 600-800 calories/day the first few months, so you're a little low - unless of course your dietitian told you to eat 500, in which case I'd follow her guidelines as she knows you and your history and I don't.. (we were told not to count calories the first few months post-op and to just focus on protein - but I knew how many calories I was eating because I was tracking every day - and I still do!) you won't ruin your metabolism. You WILL need fewer calories the lower your weight gets, but that's normal. It takes a lot more calories to run a 300 lb body than it does a 140 lb body (or whatever - I just pulled those numbers out of the blue). p.s. I just re-read your post. Yes - weight training will increase metabolism (or preserve it). It takes more calories to support a muscular body than it does a flabby one.

Hmm. It varies for different things for me. I've gotten nausea with some things. Stomach cramps with others. Gas. Diarrhea. It just depends. For example, I don't deal well with sucralose or fake sugars (though I'm okay with stevia) and it's way TMI, but you asked so... I get really REALLY bad gas. My stomach makes noise and EVERYTHING. And then it ends up with diarrhea so... no fake sugars for me! 😅 I was bad with dairy for a while, but I tolerate it better now than I did early on, which is good because I love my cottage cheese and yogurt! I haven't tried jello since liquid phase because it caused indigestion for me and it was painful and super uncomfortable! I tried it twice in the hospital and twice and home and was so done after that. On the bright side... I have yet to vomit. Everyone was telling me I'd for sure get sick and vomit and I'm almost two and a half months out and haven't vomitted even once. So I say HA to all those who told me I'd get sick!

I'm almost two months out also, bypass was on 2/14. I feel good about about the weight loss but wonder how to live and enjoy food again. I'm 43lbs down and also discouraged about my taste buds which are gone. I eat about 350-500 calories per day and struggle with almost everything as nothing tastes good anymore. I am just trying to keep food down-everything smells bad and makes me gag a little. I tolerate canned soup and broth And strangely, diet low carb ice cream but only about 3oz at the most. I saw someone suggest refried beans with cheese. I didn't think it would wrk, but I have had 1-2 oz a day for two days and they have been ok. I'm hoping the taste buds get better because I want to enjoy food Especially meat, again and balance it with my new life. Good luck to you in your journey.

    Hunger Question

Apparently, according to my doctor, the problem has been with not chewing enough. Now that I have graduated from "soft" food, to food with more substance, I have to focus more on my chewing the food thoroughly. Otherwise, my tummy gets overwhelmed and sets a signal to stop eating so it can cope with the bigger bites, before the pouch actually gets full. So I stop eating, but the pouch is not full, and I feel hungry again right away. This makes a lot of sense, and I've been much more satiated for a longer period of time now that I'm back to the 30 chews rule GreenTealael, you were absolutely right on the money!

    Ever forget you had surgery?

It's been 10 years since I had my VSG. I honestly never really think about the fact I've had surgery due to how long it's been. I'm used to eating small portions. I typically either share meals or order kids meals. I will admit there have been times when I'm eating somewhere that has amazing food that I really want mentally but my stomach says I have no more room. That rarely happens, maybe once a year.

    Ever forget you had surgery?

I always order normal, but never like i did pre surgery. The food sits too long in the fridge and then has to go in the trash.. Now.. automatically half goes in the freezer and i am 16 months out.. almost 17.
