How slowly do I you eat??

I think every 5 minutes is a bit much imho, but 1 bite every 1-2 should work. That way 20 bites is about 20 mins which is the time needed to "feel" your stomach which may not happen for you for a while. My whole slow eating approach is to take small bites and keep it mentally slow. In the beginning I was literally nibbling on things. So eating half a banana took forever. To help me along the way, I also bought smaller kids/dessert sized knives, forks and spoons. (Ikea has a dessert set called Dragon which looks very nice and has a matching normal size as well.) I also use only small dessert plates which research shows fools the mind. (https://sparq.stanford.edu/solutions/use-smaller-plates-smaller-waist) Just some ideas..welcome to the club!

    Wondering WHY I did it!

Hello Grace! I hope you are weathering our quarantine as well as you possibly can. I am also losing sloooowly, but I am thrilled with losing it at all! I had my surgery on February 10th, and I weighed 248 that day. I am now just a smidge under 228; so 20 pounds in 7 weeks. I have occasionally lost 3 pounds on the first week of a diet, maybe here and there throughout a diet, but averaging nearly 3 pounds a week feels pretty good to me! I am starting to feel a lot more energy, and as the days get longer and a bit warmer, I'm looking forward to taking longer walks in the days ahead. So many people out walking about with the quarantine on, I hope they don't close the parks. Stay in touch! I enjoy reading about everyone's journey.

    Super hungry!

I will be 4 weeks postop tomorrow, I'm hungry too! I went to Walmart Grocery store today and finding protein rich foods without it becoming monotonous is a real task. I found some egg bites premade with cheese and Turkey sausage, I don't eat pork, but they had bacon as well. I found a large container of Oikos Yogurt which is 12 grams of protein per serving, egg whites, cream of wheat, oatmeal, Sargento cheese snacks, milk for protein drink mixes and few other items for my family. I miss having ftuit, vegetables, salads, fish because my body is rejecting my favorite protein. I'm also feeling tired of sweet liquids, not being able to drink plain old fashioned water without an enhancement to tolerate it, I want cold cereal, I want cashews and pistachios for a healthy protein boost. I miss some of my favorite healthy staples that would satiate my hunger, but Ariel aka my stomach is still healing and I have to respect it. I'm hungry too.

I am going to try the D-Mannose first. See if that helps. But I also think I need to ask my PCP to routinely do a urinalysis every time I see her, since I don't always have symptoms.

So mad at myself for regain

Remember your why. Why did you want this back in 2014? For me it was not only my physical looks but other things. I couldn’t bend down and tie my shoes without having to breathe in between. Bending down like that cut off my breath. Another thing and this May be TMI, but I couldn’t hardly wipe my butt when I went potty. I remember sitting on the toilet crying because I couldn’t reach. I couldn’t walk or stand more than just a few minutes without my lower back burning and aching. Diabetes and high blood pressure run in my family. These are my whys. So you’ve gained 40 back. Thank God it’s not the 101, right? Start back with the protein shakes, maybe substitute a meal a day for one and when you’re comfortable with that substitute two meals a day with a shake. I lost 26 pounds in 3 months prior to surgery from that alone. When you want a snack in between, have one. But make it something healthy and filling like a banana or cottage cheese. You’ve done this before. You know what to do. All you have to do now is, just do it. Sending you positive vibes and hopes for your success!!! ❤️
