No one knows about this surgery. I did tell a couple of people about my first surgery back in 2017 just in case something happened to me, but none of them live in Japan. For this surgery I told no one. Luckily I'm on university holidays (which will now be extended until May, due to Covid-19) so I haven't had to miss work for any reason. Most people, including my students, won't have seen me for 3+ months by the time school starts again, so I'm sure people will notice some of the weight loss by then. But since I've done this before, and was very focused on my diet, I think most people will assume that that's what happened again this time.

    How to lose weight pre-op?

I would suggest working on cutting the soda out since you can't have carbonated drinks after your surgery for a few months (though my surgeon said it's not wise to ever drink it again as it'll re-stretch your stomach, which leads to weight re-gain). My surgeon didn't require me to lose any weight before my surgery but I lost 64 pounds in the 8 months leading up to my surgery (21 in the first 3 months). I did an elimination diet thing since I had to wait a minimum of 6 months before they could even seek approval for a surgery date because I wanted to prepare myself for how I would be eating for the rest of my life. I don't want to get back into bad habits. I never want to get back to being almost 400 pounds (at my heaviest I was 389 pounds). I cut back on my portion sizes with no seconds. Of course cut out fast food (other than salads). I cut out soda, then rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, and beans in that order. And then just maintained. Cauliflower rice is a good rice replacement and G Hughes makes a sugar free terriyaki sauce that makes for good stir fry (also makes an awesome bbq sauce which is also sugar free and great for chicken). Cauliflower pizza is surprisingly good and really the only difference I notice is that it doesn't crisp like bread. Whisps are a brand of cheese crisps they sell at Walmart which make for good croutons or chips and are low carb and delicious (Asiago and pepper jack cheese ones are my person faves followed by parm and then cheddar, though the cheddar are best dipped in salsa). And if ice cream is hard to give up they sell a low carb brand called CarbSmart which is made by Breyers. I also had 1/4 cup of peanuts 2-3x a week for snack. These are just what I did. Everyone's bodies work differently so I don't know what will work for you. I wish you the best though!

    Lipedema and VSG

I can't speak to lipedema specifically, but people lose weight at all different rates for all different reasons - age, gender, metabolic rate, activity level, starting BMI, whether or not the lost weight prior to surgery, etc. Most WLS patients seem to lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month. Of course, you'll always find people who lose more or less than that, but that seems to be about average. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started out at over 300 lbs. But I'm female, I was 55 years old when I had surgery, I'd dropped over 50 lbs before I had surgery, etc. All those things are factors. My rate of loss was slow the whole time I was in weight loss mode. BUT, I was very committed to my plan and ended up losing all of my excess weight. My point is, don't be discouraged and try not to compare yourself to others.

Hello everyone!!! I'm pleasantly surprised at all the love you all have shown me. I decided to give an update since im still receiving massive love. Turns out I not only received a below standards of care surgery, I had an underlying issue that I wouldn't have known about without the weight loss. It would have eventually killed me had I not been having such pain. No, not appendicitis. I had to have dilatations 4x by a wonderful dr that I have since fallen head over heels for!!! He single handedly guided me in the right direction while my mother nursed me back to life. I was in icu completely grey, devoid of color. I actually had an mri/ ultra sound done with and without contrast that revealed the main culprit of my pain. I had a 6hr major surgery on Nov8 and I return to work this Thursday, needless to say, I feel fantastic aside the long flabby breasts, i'm not doing anymore surgeries im done. I can eat everything forbidden period, my current bariatric dr is #1 in this area and has erased all of what the previous dr whom performed the surgery on me has said about what to eat and not to eat. Now it's not "you can't eat it", but more of what "you should and shouldn't eat". Im constantly hungry which i'm ok with because i'm eating super fancy healthy foods that i'm preparing from a cook book my mother bought me. Since I cook for us both she's lost 24lbs in a month and a half. Im down from 475lbs to holding at 171lbs,2wks prior i climbed up to 179, but back at 171lbs. I'm doing extremely well now. I thank all of you for your well wishes and positive light!!❤❤❤

Yeah, I spoke too soon (that's karma for you). My last meal of the day was some low fat yogurt with extra protein and OMG - now I know what dumping syndrome is! I felt horrible for about 5 hours, nauseous, gas (stomach abdominal area was very distended), etc - it wasn't until I was finally able to vomit that I felt better and could actually go to sleep. Even then I had to lie on my back since lying on either side brought back those symptoms (but less). I certainly learned my lesson! I think I'll take it easy and just do liquids today.
