    Three Months now! w/pics

We concentrate so much on weight ! Sometimes it's the inches lost that really shows up in your success! As one our bariatric veterans has once posted. " It's called Weight loss surgery but it should be called Fat loss Surgery" I'm ok with the inches lost ..

That makes a lot of sense actually. I started at roughly 320lbs and am down to 277lbs.. I still need to lose at least 100lbs more. I hoped that it would magically disappear once I had surgery, but I do know that it slows down and then its back to being up to the person and their will power to keep it going from there. Thanks for the heads up!

    Surgery Date!

I saw my dietitian for the first time today. She was really impressed with how much weight I've lost (and the fact that I had already met my goal weight to be eligible for surgery prior to our meeting). We talked for a bit, told her how I had been doing a lot of research on the surgery, using these forums for support, and showed her my MyFitnessPal app, so she could see how/what I was eating. She told me she'd like me to try breaking up my meals from being 3 daily to 6, so that I'd be more comfortable after surgery with the frequency of how I would need to be eating then. Good advice! She also mentioned that I would need to get an appointment with the nurse before she could schedule me for the surgery, but when she went to talk to her and explained how confident I was and how much I progressed, she went ahead and set up my surgery date, anyways!! April 27th! ♥ The only appointment I have left is a 1-on-1 patient seminar, which is March 6th. I'm so excited, you guys!

    Pre op scheduled

I have friends who have had the Sleeve and they have been very successful. One friend who had the bypass had lost 100 lbs. but did not maintain due to lack of motivation and stopped going to the gym. I know I had done it before without surgery but I also realize that I'm a little older at this point. I thought it would be silly for me at this point to consider surgery but I need to do something to improve my health. Does anyone recommend a specific diet at this time? Has anyone started a bariatric surgery diet before their actual surgery and how long before?

How much did your insurance pay?

I had a co-pay for the surgeon's fees, which turned out to be about $500. All hospital charges were covered at 100%.

I actually just searched things online... if I'm craving something in particular, I'll google bariatric recipe for blah blah blah and print out the ones I find. I have a 3 ring binder FULL of stuff that I love that is super healthy and high in protein made specifically for bariatric people. And I also have the cookbook above- it's got pretty good stuff in it, too. I've tried a few of the recipes and they turned out great!

I'm on anti biotics for a different reason -- got a bad tooth. Have to go back to the Dentist on Thursday where he will either pull it or start a root canal. If I go with a root canal, I want it done 2 weeks before surgery...

Yes, I have some loose skin, but not nearly as much as I thought I would. I am 64 years old and I lost all my weight in 7 months and looked pretty saggy, but it has actually tightened up in the past 5 months. I lived in continual pain before surgery. I cannot remember a minute that I did not have back, knee, hip, and foot pain. I already had one knee replacement and was becoming more immobile from pain in the un-operated knee. It was due to be done very soon. Since losing the first 50 pounds, I have had NO PAIN! NONE! My un-operated knee has actually expanded in the joint space, whereas before it was bone on bone. I walk, hike, swim, and bike with no pain. I also got the doctor's blessing to discontinue my C-PAP, as my extreme sleep apnea is GONE, as is my asthma, GERD, and high blood pressure. My blood sugar, HDL and triglycerides and all normal now. I didn't get any fungal infections in my skin folds last summer! My thighs don't rub together now, so no chaffing when I wear a dress. I can ride my mule, get off the floor by myself, and keep up with my grand kids. I could go on and on and on about how my life has changed since WLS. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. A little loose skin? Really? Who cares? Not me. I have my life and health back and loose skin is such a small price to pay for all I have gained. People tell me all the time how good I look, and that I look younger, even with loose skin.

    Throwing up

Yes, I try to. They make me nauseous lately too. Gotta get a better non-meat protein diet going!
