I splurged this week on new underwear, the first since surgery. I was careful to use my measurements to buy them and brought them home and washed them, as I always do before wearing them. I took the panties out and immediately said to myself, no way my big a** will fit these, to my surprise they fit. I did and said the same for the first lacey bra I've had in decades. It fit too. I need to be kinder to myself and not allow my head to talk to me like this. An exciting day and a big victory that I can't share with anyone but my husband, he's thrilled BTW. I suspect it will take some time for the head to catch up with the body. Now if I'm in an accident and rushed to the ER I will be known as the granny in sexy undies, and not granny panties!

Why I Eat When I'm Not Hungry

I think a lot of us can probably relate to this. I sure can. Luckily, I'm pretty good about stopping myself once I get up to the top end of my daily calorie range. Most of the time, anyway. I still have days when I blow it...

Why I Eat When I'm Not Hungry

I ate because I was hungry, bored, tired, stressed.... I was a gold star member of the clean plate club. Most meal I finished in about five minutes going for quantity versus taking my time and tasting things. I was living to eat. After surgery I had zero hunger. I drank/ate only because I needed to meet my daily protein goals. So now I am reprogramming my fat brain to eat to live. The only problem is filling the extra time I have now because I no longer think about food that much any more. I still catch myself thinking about eating things I shouldn't, but I can quickly put those thoughts to the side and remember why I had surgery. Which is to remake myself.

Why I Eat When I'm Not Hungry

I too am 50 and had the same beliefs of cleaning a plate; no more! I started off cutting back by using a child size plate so it cute down my portions; then when I felt hungry when I knew I shouldnt be I'd grab a protein shake and it took care of my cravings. It is,can and will be a mind over matter thing and 3 days in I can feel a bit of success already! Tonight I had a quarter of a cup of homemade tomato soup and ate it with a spoon slowly and wasn't able to eat it all. But it was so good! You can do this; tell yourself you aren't going through this surgery only to fall back into old habits! Another trick I've used before when I thought I was hungry but knew there was no way; brush your teeth lol sounds odd but it helps! Hope this helped!

    January 2020 Surgery Date

My dietitian recommended canned chicken on the soft food phase as it is cooked in the can which makes it easier to handle. I have until next Thursday before I can start soft foods, so I can't tell you if my dietitian was right or not. But, the do a lot of WLS so I am confident in their advice.

    Pre op Appointment

I am having my first appointment on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. From the paperwork they sent me to fill out and bring to the appointment, it looks like it should take 2-3 hours. After reading the Pre-Auth form my insurance requires, it looks like it might be a fairly uneventful approval process. My BMI is over 40. I am happy I found this forum and especially this thread, since some people have similar stories. Nice to meet you all, Nina

    Food Database?

I understand now. No I haven't seen anything like what you want, but Google may help. You may find books or meal plans. Good Luck 🌈

This is a great pre-op question! Each individual has to choose for him or herself, of course. Here was how I ultimately arrived at bypass for my choice. After learning about each procedure, I originally decided that I would have gastric sleeve. I have arthritis in my knee from an old sports injury and I was taking an NSAID for it—which you cannot take with bypass due to the high likelihood of ulcers. I also wanted a lower likelihood of dumping syndrome. After talking with my PCP, however, I changed my choice to bypass for a few reasons. First, after losing over 100 pounds to date pre-op I have been able to manage my arthritis with over-the-counter medications. Second, thinking of surgery as one tool in the weight loss toolbox, bypass is likely to result in a higher percentage of weight loss than sleeve. Last but not least, I want surgery to work as a tool to help me sustain my weight loss when I hit my goal weight. My PCP has had many patients who received sleeves require dilation and, in some cases, extension of their sleeves to bypasses. She also shared that the dumping syndrome that comes with bypass serves as a good long-term deterrent to overeating. I am having bypass surgery on Monday, February 24th. I plan to continue to post both pre- and post-surgery, so more to come!
