    Over this preop diet

I am a week out from surgery and I started my pre-OP diet today. I get nothing but clear liquids and broth for the next 7 days. If I make it through this I can do anything.

2 days out with a few questions

Hi all. I’m 2 days out and doing pretty well. My nerve block wore off so I’m quite sore getting up and down but that is doable. Now my questions With each sip my stomach sound like an alien is in there...normal? What is the minimum amount of liquids that must be consumed to avoid dehydration? Thanks

I’m not post op, but I would suggest trying gel nail polish. You can either get it done in a salon or invest in an LED light and gel polish. It won’t chip off and may actually help with your breakage. If you do it yourself, you will need to watch some YouTube videos to see how to apply and remove. Also, check out Revel nail dip polish. Similar concept to gel, but you dip your nails in the pigment powder and have to file between coats. It’s a bit more time consuming but lasts just as long with no need for a curing light.

Thanks, FC. I follow that thread and value it! I almost posted this there. 😀 I so appreciate the reminder of the metabolic nature of our disease and how surgery is the most effective treatment at the moment. I'm on board to move forward. You're right, inherent in my reluctance and second-guessing is probably decades of internalizing negativity and self-blame as well as society's cruel treatment of obesity. I'm hoping to move beyond blame and move towards something more productive and positive. Self-reliance based on learning from mistakes as well as learning new strategies from others. Above all, I'm going to surrender my lifetime of trying and failing (n=1 experimentation) and do some trusting of science and following the directions of my clinic to optimize my tool.

Trying again/My Story: PreOP Diet #2

I'm now on day 3 of my preop diet plan which is for 14 days. My surgery is Oct 28. i am to have 4 Optifast shakes a day. I can have unlimited sugar free jello and popsicles, broths, decaf coffee/tea with only sugar substitute (no creamer), sugar free sports drinks and of course water. I have been staying on track thus far. I haven't cheated at all. There's a light at the end of the tunnel. I know after a day or so once I'm in ketosis I'm supposed to feel much better overall and less hungry. Today I'm just tired, mild headache, achy all over, and hungry. I was off of work today. I survived Mon and Tues Days 1&2 of the diet while at work. I didn't take my breaks in the break room, I went elsewhere to drink my shakes and eat jello. I sipped on broth like it was coffee. (LOL). I started Monday at 237 and weighted 233 today! Need to be 231 or under when I weigh in at my dietician appt which is Oct 25. Good luck to you all on your journeys!

Hi all! At this point in time, only my husband, my family and a few close friends know. I work remotely from home, so there's no need for me to tell coworkers. I told my bosses that I needed to take a few days off because of surgery, but that it was nothing serious. My side of the family is in NJ, while we live in Texas close to my husband's family. Haven't told anyone on that side yet, but with the holidays coming...they'll see me not eating much and I'm sure they'll get suspicious, so I'll have to spill the beans at some point.

My partner, my sister and a very small group of close friends (swearing them to secrecy). I also told my immediate supervisor at work, because I had to justify three weeks of sick leave. She has agreed to keep it to herself. I am now at goal weight and I get asked every day how I did it. I say that it was a medically-supervised diet, which is actually true. 🙂

    Anyone 2-3 months post op??

I'm coming up on 3 months and feel pretty good most days. Still weak in my arms and legs but I attribute that to not getting enough calories. I'm going to the gym an hour a day 5 days a week doing treadmill for about 40 mins and the rest on weights. Still having trouble getting my protein goals but am doing much better on fluids. I can definitely tell a huge difference in my body. It's exciting.
