I was just wondering if anyone has taken an appetite suppressant during their clear liquid faze before surgery? If so, what kind? I have to do a clear liquid faze for one week. No protein shakes are allowed.

This is probably the harshest thing I have ever written on here, but unless you have some issue I'm not aware of, I think your doctor is bananas. I wonder if it's some test to see if you can do it? I had the same surgery and could have a shake and 2 lean cuisines a day the 2 weeks before surgery and only had one day of liquids. That being said, I don't think taking them for a week would hurt because you won't be able to eat after surgery, but the hunger that comes back when you go off appetite suppressants is always a concern. I would ask your doctor if the diet is really mandatory and about the appetite suppressants.

    Feeling sorry for myself Today

You have been through a LOT! Physically and emotionally. Your body needs time to heal from all this trauma, so please try to not be so hard on yourself. You feel crappy. That's OK. Now just get better and heal. Your emotions will heal as your body heals. Find some fun stuff - puzzles, NetFlix binge, a good book, and hunker down and just baby yourself for a while. (But don't forget to walk!!!! You don't need a blood clot on top of all this.) You should be getting some nice weather about now so hopefully you can get out a bit and enjoy the fresh air. Hang in there!!!!

Hi everyone, I feel blessed to report that I had surgery on 9/17 and I came home 9/19. I have no memory except waking up in my private room. I wanted pain meds because my belly ached. I was moderately thirsty not hungry. I have not had any problems with vomiting except with a liquid pain medicine. I stopped that and now am just taking oxy here and there. But overall I am doing very well with keeping down liquids, soups, water, jello. Home and walking up and down stairs and resting but feeling great! I lost 10lbs just doing the cleanse but haven't lost much yet otherwise that I can tell. I am taking gas-x around the clock but the pain is minor. I hope everyone else is doing just as good!

Maybe protein- enhanced waters like Protein 2-0, Ensure and the other companies make or you get at General Nutrition Stores or even Health Food stores? Now I am curious also.

    Pre op diet pain.

My heart goes out to you. I was on liquids for two weeks in May prior to surgery. I was so crazy. I found hot broth helped a lot and miso soup. On day of surgery my surgeon said liver was perfectly small and it made it so much easier for him. You must stick to this for your own safety. Hang in there it will be worth it.

    Pre op diet pain.

I didn't have to do any pre-op diet at all except the day before was just non sugar drinks and non sugar jello so I commend you all for your dedication! Something that helped me enormously after surgery was using a shaved ice maker. You could eat it plain or drizzle sugar-free gatorade or even clear protein drinks on it. You just feel like you are eating and it is so satisfying plus you are getting some liquids in. I had one from wm for years but they also sell them for around 20 on amazon.

    Health Issues and exercise

Yep. When I started this journey at 287lbs, I was pretty much bed-ridden. Terrible shape. So I started a super low cal, low fat, low carb diet. And started walking in my house for 5 minutes at a time. Some days it was all I could do to make 5 minutes for the day. But slowly, the weight came off and my endurance increased. It is not easy. But it does get better. Losing the weight, having the surgery, getting to normal weight, I exercise for 60 minutes a day about 6 days a week. I still walk. And then I do core exercises at home 2 days a week in addition to that. My pain has gone from a 7-9 down to a very manageable 3-4.
