This is probably the harshest thing I have ever written on here, but unless you have some issue I'm not aware of, I think your doctor is bananas. I wonder if it's some test to see if you can do it? I had the same surgery and could have a shake and 2 lean cuisines a day the 2 weeks before surgery and only had one day of liquids. That being said, I don't think taking them for a week would hurt because you won't be able to eat after surgery, but the hunger that comes back when you go off appetite suppressants is always a concern. I would ask your doctor if the diet is really mandatory and about the appetite suppressants.

    Feeling sorry for myself Today

You have been through a LOT! Physically and emotionally. Your body needs time to heal from all this trauma, so please try to not be so hard on yourself. You feel crappy. That's OK. Now just get better and heal. Your emotions will heal as your body heals. Find some fun stuff - puzzles, NetFlix binge, a good book, and hunker down and just baby yourself for a while. (But don't forget to walk!!!! You don't need a blood clot on top of all this.) You should be getting some nice weather about now so hopefully you can get out a bit and enjoy the fresh air. Hang in there!!!!

I use Bob's Red Mill steel cut GF oats - for the same reason - slower release of carbs. Thanks for the reminder.

New YouTube Show - Bariatric Strong

Hey there @NurseMichael! Just watched the video, liked and subscribed - really enjoyed it. Love your energy and passion, and while I don't know how much I can get out of it at this point in time (only one month post-op), I know it won't be long at all until whatever I learn will be so valuable. Thank you for doing this, what a great service to the bariatric community! P.S. Is it bad that I burst out laughing when your mic fell over? 😂 I'm so glad you didn't edit that out, it made the video even better!

Hi everyone, I feel blessed to report that I had surgery on 9/17 and I came home 9/19. I have no memory except waking up in my private room. I wanted pain meds because my belly ached. I was moderately thirsty not hungry. I have not had any problems with vomiting except with a liquid pain medicine. I stopped that and now am just taking oxy here and there. But overall I am doing very well with keeping down liquids, soups, water, jello. Home and walking up and down stairs and resting but feeling great! I lost 10lbs just doing the cleanse but haven't lost much yet otherwise that I can tell. I am taking gas-x around the clock but the pain is minor. I hope everyone else is doing just as good!

I love the concept and appreciate your many levels of expertise. My puzzle is that I am trying to figure out the right nutrition for endurance events - triathlon, distance biking, back packing (planning to do the Grand Canyon next year as part of the 830 mile Arizona Trail.) I had RNY 7 months ago and am goal weight. I still cannot eat much at any given time and struggle to get in enough calories to maintain training. I love Intermittant Fasting (16:), but I have given that up in order to spread more caloric intake throughout the day. I specifically would like to know what works well right before an event and during an event, or between stages (such as Triathlon). It needs to be easily digestable, but not so high in carbs that I end up dumping. Tomorrow I am doing a bike ride and then a swim. I am going to try a bowl of oatmeal and a protein smoothie about an hour before the ride, and then have a protein shake before the swim. Any other suggestions would be very welcome. PS: I am also an RN and very much into healthy, lifestyle nutrition.

So do measurements with a tape measure MUCH more accurate especially when you are stalled and feeling fed up. Also the next pic is a true story

    Health Issues and exercise

Yep. When I started this journey at 287lbs, I was pretty much bed-ridden. Terrible shape. So I started a super low cal, low fat, low carb diet. And started walking in my house for 5 minutes at a time. Some days it was all I could do to make 5 minutes for the day. But slowly, the weight came off and my endurance increased. It is not easy. But it does get better. Losing the weight, having the surgery, getting to normal weight, I exercise for 60 minutes a day about 6 days a week. I still walk. And then I do core exercises at home 2 days a week in addition to that. My pain has gone from a 7-9 down to a very manageable 3-4.
