    Playing the Waiting game :-/

Just heard from my Patient Advocate at Dr. Smith's office in Celebration FL that they have received all my clearances and sent them to my insurance to get the go ahead... I know this is a good thing but I'm not patient at all lol ...

I'm not hungry... I want food.

Like everything else in life, we need to be able to separate what we WANT and what we NEED. It's hard with food, because we've relied on it for emotional support instead of just physical sustenance. The WANT is driven from the desire (physical, even) for endorphins and norepinephrine and dopamine release from the brain. It is the same as what happens for drug addiction, including sugar addiction. The pleasure centers of the brain get tickled when we endulge in the addictive substance and creates a desire for more. It just feels so darn good to eat! (All for about 5 minutes!) The real key is to retrain the brain to feel pleasure with healthy options like exercise, gardening, music, meditation, or eating a beautiful, delicious vegetable. It can be done, but just takes repetition. This is what the "Honeymoon" stage of weight loss surgery is all about - using this time to learn new strategies and retrain the brain. The time comes for all of us that we get more hungry, but without the feeling of restriction. This is where folks start to regain.

I actually feel really hungry at times. I’m 8 days post op and I can’t stop thinking about food. 😣

Blow 'em off hon. Let it roll off your back. You need to be here and you are just as important as any of us. Remember...if you suspect people don't like or get you...

Its hard to believe that this kind of surgery has been around this long already. Yes I had this done 45 years ago in Traverse City at Munson Hospital. Back then it was an open surgery they staple the stomach and create a small pouch then it is bypassed to the jejunum. While they were doing this surgery back then all the organs were removed and cleaned out. You stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks or so, much different then how it is done now adays. I have maintained the weight loss over the years, however, there was a few years when I had put on up to 40 pounds and just started slowly getting it back off once I realized what I was doing.
